NiTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE MOFADDEN, OF NEw YORK, N. Y.
STRlKlNG-BAG FRAME.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 658,553, dated September 25, 1900.
Application filed March 2 7, 1 900.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE MOFADDEN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Striking-Bag Frames,of which the followingis a full, clear, and exact specification.
This invention relates to striking bag frames particularly designed for home use, the object of the invention being to provide a frame of simple and durable construction, easily adjustable to any desired height, and portable in its nature.
A striking-bag frame constructed in accordance with my invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a perspective view of a doorframe having my device secured thereto. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of one of the arms. Fig. 3 is a view of a receiver, and Fig. 4 is a detail side view of the cross-piece from which the bag may be suspended.
In making a frame in accordance with my invention I secure one arm A to each side of a door-jamb or other permanent object by means of combination-screws. The arms A are hinged in the center in order that they may be readily folded, and at each side of the hinge a I place screw-holes b, through which one end of the combination-screw passes, and the arms are then prevented from moving by screwing a nut or the like over the projecting screw-thread. At or near each end of the arms A are openings or apertures 0, through which the hook d of the receiver B passes. Any desired number of these receivers may be stretched between the arms, the force with which the bag rebounds being regulated by the number of receivers employed.
The bag 0 may be suspended either from the top of the door-frame, as would be convenient for a person of average height, or it Serial No. 10,337. (No model.)
may be suspended from a cross-piece D, each end of which fits into mortises in the arms A, and said cross-piece may be placed at any desired height to suit the convenience of the user.
A frame as above described is exceedingly simple in construction and, being easily adjustable, portable, and readily folded into a small compass, is much superior to articles of similar nature now in use.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A striking-bag frame comprising a pair of bars extending parallel with each other, means arranged centrally of said arms by which they may be secured to the dOor-jamb, and a plurality of receivers at each end of the bars extending parallel with each other between the bars and at right angles thereto.
2. A striking-bag frame comprising a pair of parallel arms each composed of hinged sections and receivers secured to the arms and extending transversely between them, the hinges of the arms being arranged centrally thereof.
3. A striking-bag frame comprising a pair of centrally-hinged arms, means for securing said hinged arms to a stationary object, and receivers at each end of said arms, substantially as described. V
4. The combination in a striking bag frame, of a pair of centrally-hinged arms, a cross-piece fittinginto mortises in said arms, and means for securing said arms to a permanent object, substantially as described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE MCFADDEN.
