nei-tizen o the United Steies,residin at Stemvford, county of Fairfield, State of Connecticut, have ,invented n new and useful Endless Screen for Gste-'Houses, of which the following is e specification. My invention is applicable to. the' geteliouses of Waterworkssystems and to races, slulces, and waterways generally, in which it may be required to screen the water-4'. e., to check vegetable and other matter that may be floating on the surface er eerried along by the current beneath the surface, but. without tiltering' the water. In weterworks systems, foi-exemple, it has been common to provide removable screens, which in many instances required biting up a. number of times s day for the purpose of cleaning, efter which the screens had to be let down to place again, 'the' ope-ration of lifting end replacing the screens. requiring quites little time and `the use-of considerable power, either manuel, or mechanical, depending, of course, upon lthe size ofthe waterway and the construction ofthe screen. This practice requires, furthermore,A either that the water be shut off when the, screen is lifted or else that unscrcened water heellowed' to pass'freely while the screen is lifted for the purpose of being cleaned. ln order to overcome Vthese dilliculties, I have devised e novel endless screen thstmay he shifted as often es may be desired by e singie person usingl but little manuel power, so that a fresh portion of the screen maybe placed i n use, and liu\.1 e,'t`uijthermore, provided means whereby the portionofthe screen last in use will be cleaned 'by the operation. of shifting it, no stoppage of the weitet" or 're rnovnl of'the screen being,v necessary during the life oi' the parts. The operation of my novel screen is so 0b'- vious as to hardly require description. It is simply necessary'in use to move the screen sumciently to place a clean portion 'thereof rso ing the portion last in use requiring but a momentis qtime and being performed easily by ono person.
Having' thus described my invention, I claim-if 1. The combination with the walls of a. waterway a'nd a frame 'adapted to slide vertically insaid waterway and having an opening through it, lof drums journaled upon said frame and au endless 'screen carried by the drums' and coverin the opening.
2. The combination with-the walls of a waterway and a frame adapted to slide vertically yin said waterwa and having an opening through it, of dfnms journaled upon said 'frame,an endless screen carried by said drumsand a rotary bru'snV actuated from' one of the P suertes drums and acting to clean the screen when the drums are rotated. 1
3. The combintion with a frame having an opening through it'rotdruns journaled upon said frame, an endless'fsoreeunarried'by said drums and a. swinging roller-which engages both the screen and the frame atthe lower end of the opening..
4. The combination withaframe having an opening through it and drums journaled upon said frame, said drums having recesses at their edges end eprooketwteenh,. of .sprocketchai ns lying in the recesses and engaging the sprocket-teeth and an endless screen carried by the sprocket-chains.
5. The combination with a frame having an opening through it and drums jou rnaled epoxi; said frame, said drums being provided Wifi/1j;Y lrecesses at their edges and sprocket-teethiin said recesses and one of said drums carryinga gear-wheel, of sprocket-chains lying in the recesses and engaging the sprocket-teeth, an endless screen carried by the sprockeifchains and a rotary brush having a gear-wheel engaging the gear-wheel upon one of the drums, whereby as the chain is moved by rotation of the drums the brush will also be rotated and will clean the screen.
