VAGINAL SYRlNGE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 655,540, dated August 7, 1900.

Be it known that I, ANTON ARLT, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, residing at Bad Sommerstein, near Saalfeld, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vagina-Pipes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to vaginal-syringe nozzles, and comprises an improved arrangement which, as compared with other wellknown devices of the same class, possesses the advantages of being easily handled and enabling the vagina to be completely closed by means of a taper or funnel shaped plug, so that the irrigatingliquid may be kept therein for any desired length of time. A further important advantage is gained by the peculiar form of the syringe, whereby injury to the womb is entirely precluded. This device, with or without a rose-head, is exceedingly convenient in use.

A vaginal syringe made according'to my said invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 shows an elevation, Fig. 2 a longitudinal section, and Fig. 3 a transverse section, of the same.

This vaginal syringe possesses a taper or funnel shaped plug (0, preferably consisting of hard rubber, and which, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, may be made hollow. In the center of this taper or funnel shaped plug a I provide the tubular member 1), serving for the passage of the irrigating liquid and made in one piece with the plug, the said pipe terminating above in a cap 0 and below in a rosehead 61. This syringe may be employed either with or without the rose-head, which latter serves for weakening the jet and enables the liquid to irrigate all parts of the vagina.

For facilitating the closing of the vagina through the medium of the funnel-shaped plug this plug is furnished with a nose or bulge 6.

Having now particularly described and as certained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is A two-piece vaginal-syringe nozzle comprising a central tubular member or conduit b having a valved member at its outer end and having its walls extended and tapered to form a hollow truncated base a, said base having one of its faces slightly thickened and having its lower portion extended below the mouth of the tube 12 to form a socket; and a removable apertured member cl adapted to be received in said socket, and conforming to the contour of the member a, substantially as shown and described.
