sP'EoIriOATI'ON forming part of Letters ratent No. 654,675, dated July 31,1900;
Application filed Catcher 2l, 1899. ASerial No. '784.351' (No'modelv-l To @Zt whoml it may connerie.-
Be itY known that I, ELVINA ROOT, residing at Coquille, in the county of Coos and State of Oregon, have invented Improvements in Coee or Tea Pots, of which the following is a specification. i
My invention relates to strainers for coffee or tea pots and like vessels. y
One embodiment of theinv'ention is illustrated in the accom'panyingsheetof drawings, inwhioh ,r
Figure l is a view inelevation' with parts broken away, showingthe strainer in position. Fig. 2 isa horizontalgsection on the line m2 of Fig. 1 with the'strainer removed.
' Fig. 3 is a similar viewwith'the strainer in position,and Fig. 4 is strainer detached.`
Throughout the several views like numerals of reference indicatelike parts.
Referring to the drawings, l represents a vessel. In the present instance an ordinary coffee-pot is shown,wh ichisinteriorly flanged, as indicated at 2, (seelFig.l 2,) and provided with a series of lugs 33 3; The lugs extend upwardly fromthe ange and havetheir ends bent over to serve as engaging hooks for the strainer. Y
4: representsthe strainer, `which consists of a fiat ring 5, provided,circumterentially with carn-1ike enlargements 6 6 `6,corresp`1onding in number with the lugs or hooks upon the iiange of the pot. To the ring or annular a plan view of the base the strainer proper, 7, is suitably attachedas, for example, bythe wires 8 8, which are arched over the semispherical gauze and bent up centrally thereof to form a knob 9, by means of which the strainer may be manipulated.
In use the strainer is placed within the vessel so that it rests upon the ange and is locked in position by turning it until the cams or peripheral enlargements find under the lugs or hooks.' Its removal may be effected by reversing the operation above described.
The advantages of the device consist in its extreme simplicity, cheapness, and eiectiveness in use.
It is evident that various changes could be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention.
Having thus fully described the invention, I claim- The combination with the vessel l, provided interiorly with the flange 2, having secured upon its upper side a series of undercut lugs 3, of a strainer, comprising aringbase 5 'cut away circumferentially to form clamp members 6, adapted to coperate with and lock under the lugs 3, an approximately-hemispherical gauze body 7, upon the ring and a series of Wire strands 8, securing the gauze by extending upward from the ring 2, over the gauze and terminating centrally of the latter in the form of a handle 9, as specified.
In testimony whereof I aftix my signature in the presence of two witnesses. ELVINA ROOT.
