Description
@uitrit gieten Beirut @ffise' IMPROVED WINDOW-BLIND FASTBNER.
@The Stil-thuis refont tu in llgesr tdtcrs fjntort zum limiting @zat 4of tigt sama.
Be it known that I, CHARLES I). ABELL, of Nashua, in the county' Hillsborough, and State of New Hampshire` have invented a new and useful improvement on a machine for fastening window-blinds, called The Model Blind-l"ustencr; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description ofthe construction and opera-tion of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making o part of' this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a side view.
Figure 2, a. front view.
Figure 3, a bottom view.
Figure 4, the same as tig. 1 with the tube A removed.
Figure 5, a transverse section of the tube A.
Figure 6, a spiral spring.
In the construction. of my blind-fastener I use three pieces, the first, a hollow tube, marked A, oi' cast iron or other metal to be inserted in the bottom of the blind, with two ears on the sides of the lower end of the tube through `each of which it is fastened by a screw to the blind. On one side, between the two ears, is a groove running up about ve-eighths of an inch from the lower end of the tube. The top ofthe tube is left uncovered for the upper end of the piece marked B to pla-y through.
The second piece, marked B, consists of a common blind-latch, from the centre of thc back of which projects upward a stem which plays in the tube A. From the side of' this .stem through the above-mentioned groove projects laterally the thumbfpiece. y This piece may lie-composed of brass, malleable iron, or other metal.
The remaining piece is a spiral spring, marked C, which works on the upper half of the stem B and inside the tube A, the upper end being confined by the top of the tube, and the lower end resting on the shoulder in the stem. When the blind is closed the spring holds the latch down. l The blind is unlatched by raising the thumb-piece.
I do not claim broadly the use of spring-catches, as I am aware that they have been used before, but having thus fully described my invention', what I db claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The stem B provided with a thumb-piece on its side, and a catch upon its lower end, when used in combination with the socket or tube A, provided with an opening or slot in its side to receive the thumb-piece, and with a coiled spring, C, which surrounds the stem, as and for the purpose herein specified.
GHAS. I. BELL.
