SAMUEL P. MCOANN, OF DALABK, ARKANSAS.
BUSH-PULLER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 643,725, dated February 20, 1900.
- Application filed July 19, 1899. fierial No. 724,354;- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL P. MOCANN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dalark, in the county of Dallas and State of Arkansas, have invented certain new and use ful Improvements in Bush-Pullers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is a bush-puller; and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of its parts, as hereinafter set out in this specification and the claim thereunto attached.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention in operation. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the base, showing how the lower end of the fulcrum part is attached to the same.
My invention is described as follows:
In the accompanying drawings, 1 is the base. 2 are eyebolts secured to the upper face of the base. The bolt part 3 passes down through the base and is secured by nuts 4, which are countersunk in the lower face of the base. Hinged between these eyebolts are two curved arms 5 and 6, and between these two arms is a washer 2. The arm 6 is longer than the arm 5 and at its end turns out at right angles to its body, forming a jaw 7, which is provided with teeth. Between these two curved arms at their pivotal point is a washer 2 to keep'their lower ends apart, and between these two arms and at the end of arm 5 is pivoted a lever 8, the lower end of which turns out at right angles to its main body, forming a jaw 9, which also has teeth and articulates with jaw 7. In the upper end of this lever is a perforation 10, and in this perforation is a ring 11,- and in this ring 11 is a rope 12, at which one or more men may pull.
The base 1 may be a simple square beam of timber; but I have illustrated it as a small circle, so that it may be large enough to keep it from sinking in soft ground. The base may be larger in comparison to the other part of the device than is shown in the specification, and'the long end of the lever may be longer than is shown and may be without the perforation and the ring, or it may be shorter and more curved.
I purpose to manufacture several sizes of this invention.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the base 1; eyebolts 2, secured to the upper face of the base; arms 5 and 6, pivoted between said eyebolts; washer 2, working between said arms at their pivotal point, causing a space between the two arms for the lever; jaw 7, integral with said arm 6; lever 8, pivoted between said arms; jaw 9, integral with lever 8, and articulating with jaw 7, substantially as shown and described and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
SAMUEL P. MGGANN.
