Be it remembered that I, SHANNON MeG'UrFIN, of the eity of Rising Sun, in the county of Ohio, and State of India-na, have invented a newv and useful Improvement on aMaehine for the Purpose of Chur-ning and Gathering Butter; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construetion andl operation of thesame, reference being had to the annexed drawings, which are made a part' of this specification.
Figure l is a perspective View of the butter-gatherer.
Figure 2 is the wire spring, to be pressed in to allow the gatherer, inverted funnels, or dasher, to slide on the handle, and holds each oi' them firmly on the handle A, as they may be required for use.
Number 1 is the gatherer; 3 and 3, the inverted tin or Wooden funnels; B is the dasher; A is the handle.
All of the same are to be constructed of tin or wood.
For churning, slide on the inverted funnels, and then the dasher. The spring Wire holds them firmly in their place. And for gathering the butter, slide on the gatherer as above. 'The holes in the gatherer 8 8 8, are for the purpose of allowing the buttermilk to escape. By the inverted funnels over the dasheig'air is carried down into thev milk, thereby hastening the separation of the butter from the milk, and at the same time the confined air under the funnelsa-uses the handle to spring upward without effort on the part of the person churning, thus lessening the labor materially. With my gatherer all the butter is saved, and separatedv from the buttermilk, and in much 'less time than by any other method.
Therefore I'claim, and ask that Letters Patent of the United States may be issued to me for the combined invention of the inverted funnels and the butter-gatherer heretofore referred to.
