Be it known that I, SAMUEL M. Rovnn, a citizen of: the United States, and a resident of Martinsburg, in the county of Blair and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collapsible DrinkingCups; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

Figure 1 of the drawings is a side elevation of the invention in the case. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the invention with cup removed from the case and extended. Fig. 2 is a central vertical section of the cup extended. Fig. 3 illustrates in perspective the cup and adjacent parts. Fig. l illustrates the application of the key to the cap of the medicinal receptacle. Fig. 5 illustrates the application of the key to the cover thereof.

This invention is designed to provide a collapsible drinking-cup of novel character which can be readily carried in the pocket and which has at its bottom a receptacle designed to contain some medicinal or other substance which will enter into solution with the water or other liquid in the cup, means being provided whereby when desired such liquid may be prevented from coming in contact with this substance.

With this object in view the invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts, all as hereinafter described, and pointed out in the appended claims.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, the letter A designates the base or bottom of the cup, which is formed with an outer short vertical flange a and with an inner higher flange a.

B B B designate telescoping cup-forming sections which are segments of adownwardlydiminishing cone, the section B fitting on the flange a, section 13 on the section B, and sec tion B" on the section B, as shown in the drawings. lVhen collapsed, the said sections fall into the space between the two flanges a a.

O designates the receptacle which is designed to contain medicinal or other soluble substance in solid or semisolid form. This receptacle consists of a perforated flange formed on the base or bottom A within the flange a and usually of about the same height as said flange, with a close internally-fitting cover 0. D is a removable cap which is adapted to fit over and entirely inclose the said receptacle.

E designates the cylindrical case which fits over the flange a when the sections are collapsed. This case is usually attached to the base A by a cord or wire 0.

The receptacle-cover C and the cap D are preferably formed,respectively, with key slots or seats 0 c, a key H being provided having bits h h adapted, respectively, to the said seats or slots. This key forms a convenient means for removing said cover and cap when desired. It is usually attached to one of the cup-forming sections and is carried within the case E.

The receptacle 0 is designed to be supplied with some medicinal substance, which may be either of a nature suited to some particular disease or condition which it is desired to treat or of a character to destroy or overcome injurious effects which might follow from drinking impure water or from drinking it in too-large quantities or when overheated, or it may be with some substance which will merely flavor the water or other fluid. When the cup is filled, a little agitation (cap D being removed) causes the fluid to permeate this substance, which enters into solution therewith. Enough of the substance may be placed in the receptacle to last for a considerable time. By putting on the cap D, how ever, the cup may be used as an ordinary drinking-cup. This cup is particularly desirable for the use of bicyclists and tourists.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

l. A medicinal drinking-cup comprising a base having the vertical concentric flanges 0., a, and an inner perforated flange 0, provided with a removable cover and forming a receptacle, the collapsible cup-forming sections, and the inclosing case, substantially as specified.

2. A medicinal drinking-cup comprising'a vent access of liquid thereto when desired,
