Definitions
- the subject of the present invention is a plastic felt, and this felt is extremely tough and resisting, while maintainingits elasticity. It can be kneaded, formed, pressed, repressed, and rolled into plates at any time, and this can be done to such a degree that even after years the felt can be kneaded over into new shapes. Furthermore, this felt is waterproof or, rather, impermeable to water, and it can therefore be used advantageously for a great variety of technical and industrialpurposes owing to this property and those above referred to.
- This novel felt is produced by intimate kneading of gutta-percha or its substitutes possessing analogous elasticity in combination with animal fiber or hair or eventually with asbestos fiber.
- the animal fiber is appropriately obtained by drying the Whole animal-skin before depilation and macerating it into as small fibers as possible by suitable ragging appliances.
- These fibers can be mixed with asbestos fibers and are kneaded in kneading-machines with the guttapercha material until an intimate and as uniform a mixture as possible is obtained. In this condition the felt material is ready for being Worked into any form direct.
- I claim- Plastic felt consisting of an intimate eonglomeration of gutta-percha with shredded or macerated animal skins and hair.

Description
UNITED STATES PATENT CFFICE.
ADOLF GENTZSCH, OF VIENNA, AUSTRIA-HUNGARY.
. PLASTIC FELT-.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 637,776, dated November 28, 1899;
Application filed August 18, 1,899. Serial No. 727,687. (No specimens.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ADOLF GENTZSCH, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, and a resident of Vienna, Austria-Hungary, have invented certain new and useful improve ments in Plastic Felt, of which the following is a specification.
The subject of the present invention is a plastic felt, and this felt is extremely tough and resisting, while maintainingits elasticity.
This novel felt is produced by intimate kneading of gutta-percha or its substitutes possessing analogous elasticity in combination with animal fiber or hair or eventually with asbestos fiber. In this connection it should be observed that the amount of fibrous material in proportion to the gutta-percha determines the toughness, solidity, and compact-mess of the felt produced, the quantity of fibrous material tending to increase or decrease these properties. The animal fiber is appropriately obtained by drying the Whole animal-skin before depilation and macerating it into as small fibers as possible by suitable ragging appliances. These fibers can be mixed with asbestos fibers and are kneaded in kneading-machines with the guttapercha material until an intimate and as uniform a mixture as possible is obtained. In this condition the felt material is ready for being Worked into any form direct.
I claim- Plastic felt consisting of an intimate eonglomeration of gutta-percha with shredded or macerated animal skins and hair.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
ADOLF GENTZSOH.
Witnesses:
ALVES'IO S. Hoeun, AUGUST FUGGER.
