To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HENRY M. CASSIDY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Condiment- Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

My invention relates to new and useful improvements in condiment-holders and it consists in simple and efficient devices for cleaning the openings arranged at the discharge of the holder and for agitating the contents thereof.

My invention will be more clearly understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 represents a plan view of a condiment-holder embodying the principles of my invention. Fig. 2 illustrates a vertical section of the same on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1, a slight modification of the central stem being shown in dotted lines. Fig. 3 represents a sectional plan View taken on line 3 3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 shows a front elevation of a modified form of stem.

Referring to the reference-letters marked upon the drawings, A indicates .the body portion of the holder, which I prefer to make of glass, although any other suitable material will suffice.

, B is a cap threaded to the upper portion of the body of the holder and provided with a number of small openings b.

Passing through the center of the device is a stem 0, which is supported at one end by a bearing cin the cap B, said stem being provided with a four-bladed scraper C, which rests against the inner perforated portion of the cap B and, being capable of turning, prevents the material contained in the holder from clogging the holes in the cap. In cases where the material to be used is liable to adhere or mass I prefer to construct the stem of a spiral form 0 as shown in Fig. 4, so that by turning the stem the union of the particles of the material contained in the holder will be broken up.

The stem 0 passes through an opening a in the bottom of the holder and is provided with a small pinion D, which is acted upon to turn ing, while the other is slotted at f and guided by a screw f fastened to the casing. The spring-actuated rack F engages a pinion H, which in turn engages the pinion D on the stem C.

It will be understood that various modifications of the operating devices may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention. As an instance, the rack F may be caused to act directly upon the pinion D to turn the stem 0, or a segmental rack may be employed in place of the straight rack shown and described.

Having fully described the character of my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. A condiment-holder comprising a receptacle provided at one end with a detachable perforated cap and at the other end with a detachable casing, a scraper adapted to said cap within the receptacle, a central stem, and devices located within the detachable casing for operating the stem and scraper, substantially as specified.

2. A condiment-holder comprising a receptacle provided at one end with a detachable perforated cap, a scraper adapted to said cap, a central stem adapted to operate the scraper, a detachable casing secured to the opposite end of the receptacle, a push-button and a lever guided in said casing, and devices as shown interposed between the push-button and its lever and the central stem for operating the scraper, substantially as specified.

A condiment-holder comprising a receptacle provided at the top with a detachable perforated cap, a scraper adapted to the inner side of the cap, a central stem secured to the scraper and supported by suitable bearings in the cap and receptacle,a pinion mounted upon the central stem below the bottom of the receptacle, a detachable casing secured to the bottom of the receptacle, and devices located within the receptacle for operating said pinion, substantially as specified.

A condiment-holder comprising a receptacle provided at its upper end with a detachable perforated screw-cap, a central stem within the receptacle, a scraper secured to the stem and adapted to the perforated cap, a cover or casing detachably secured to the lower end of the receptacle, a small pinion secured to the central stem Within the cover or easing, a large pinion pivoted to said casing engaging the firstmentioned pinion, and a spring-actuated rack engaging the large pinion, substantially as specified.

5. A condiment-holder comprising a receptacle provided at its upper end With a detachable perforated screw-cap, a spiral stem suitably supported Within the receptacle and providedWithascraperadapted to said perforated cap, a cover or casing detaohably threaded to the receptacle, a small pinion secured to the spiral stem within said cover or casing, a larger pinion pivoted to said casing engaging the smaller pinion, a rack engaging the larger pinion, a spring engaging the rack to operate the same in one direction, and a push-button adapted to move the rack against the action of said spring, substantially as specified.

6. A condiment-holder comprising a receptacle, A, a perforated cap B, threaded thereto, a centrally-located stem C provided at one end with a scraper C, adapted to the cap B, and at the opposite end with a pinion D, a detachable cover or casing E, threaded to the bottom of the receptacle, a rack F, and pinion 11, located Within the cover or casing, said pinion H, being in engagement With the pinion D, a spring G, for operating the rack in one direction and a push-button f, connected to said rack for operating the same against the action of said spring in the opposite direction, substantially as specified.
