Beitkn own that I, LEVI M. MYERS, acitizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Newberg, in the county of Yamhill and State of Oregon, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hop-Bins, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings as a part thereof.

Myinvention relates to hop bins or receptacles over which the hop-poles, with the vines still thereon, are laid when picking off the hops. A number of such bins are necessarily used in all large hop-yards, and frequently there are several patches of hops some dislance apart to be picked, so the difficulty has been to conveniently transport the bins to the fields and to store them when the season is over. To remove this inconvenience is the object of my invention; and to this end I have invented the folding bin I am about to describe, the construction of which is as shown in the drawings referred to, which represent as follows:

Figure 1 is a perspective elevation. Fig. 2 is an end elevation. Fig. 3 is also an end elevation showing the crotches folded together, and Fig. 4 is a side elevation showing the appearance of my bin. with the crotches folded together as seen in Fig. 3 and turned under.

My bin is constructed of two rails a a, to which is attached a sack-like receptacle made of some suitable fabric and composed of a long and wide body-strip b, tacked to the sides of the said rails, and the head and tail pieces 1) b sewed to the ends of the body-strip. To make the head and tail pieces taut, ropes o and d are fastened by their ends between the rails at their extremities and inserted through loops therefor providedin such head and tail pieces.

The rails are supported on two folding and jointed crotches, each comprising a member 2, provided with a central longitudinal slot f, and a corresponding member composed of two sections g and g, both of which have a slot h at their inner ends and fixedly hold a curved plate 1', pivoted at its center in the slot f of the member 6. Said crotches are hinged to the rails by means of angle-plates j, two of which are secured to the head of each member of the crotch and then pivotally attached on the outsides of the rails, near their extremities, as seen in Fig. 1, so as to constitute a joint enabling the crotches when closed to be folded under the rails. The hook 7c is attached by a screw-eye to one member of each crotch, and the other is provided with an eye Z, in which to insert the head of such hook, whereby the members of the crotches are kept spread apart. WVhile so fixed the crotches, obviously, cannot be turned under the rails, and thus all danger of the bin accidentally collapsing is avoided. When not using the bin or when transporting the same to the field, the hook 7.: is unlatched and the head of such hook secured in an eye Z, as shown in Fig. 3, the jointed members of the crotches straightened, as seen in Fig. 3, and then the crotches are folded under the rails, the sack being pulled up and folded around the rails, and the whole is converted into a small compact body, a considerable number of which may be conveniently loaded on the wagon to be taken to the field, and at the end of the season may be stored in the barn until the arrival of the next season.

Now what I claim'is 1. As a hop-bin, a pair of rails and a sacklike receptacle, hung therefrom, such rails being supported on a two-folding and jointed crotches, each comprising a member, 6, provided with a central longitudinal slot and a corresponding member composed of two sections g and g, both of which are slotted at the inner ends and fixedly hold a curved plate, 1', pivoted at its center in the slot in the member e, and the heads of the crotches being provided with angle-plates, j, whereby they are pivotally attached near the extremities of the rails, substantially as described.
