To aZZ whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, EDWARD L. TROUP, a citizen of the United States, residing at Deshler, in the county of Henry and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plow-Points; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, in which- Figure 1 is a top view. Fig. 2 is a view showing the front side of the point. Fig. 3 is a rear view of the point. Fig. 4 shows the bottom or under side of the point. Fig. 5 is a transverse section through line m m, Fig. 4E.

The present invention has relation to plowpoints; and it consists in the novel arrangement hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.

Similar numbers of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.

In the accompanying drawings, 1 represents the point proper, which is constructed in the ordinary manner, reference being had to my improvements connected therewith. The front or forward end of the point proper is provided with the lugs 2, one lug being located upon each side of the point and upon the bottom or under side thereof. Between the lugs 2 is located the connecting-flange 3, which flange is substantially of the form shown and is for the purpose of giving to the point additional strength and at the same time increasing the durability of the point proper. For the purpose of producing a plow-point that will be durable the cutting side of the point proper is provided with the rib 4, which rib is located upon the bottom or under side of the bottom and extends to within a short distance of the front or forward end of the point proper.

This rib is provided with the edge 5, located at the bottom or lower front edge of the rib 4, and the top or upper side of said rib is rounded, as illustrated at 6, Fig. 5, by which arrangement the cutting side of the point will be worn sharp; but by reason of the rib it will not be worn away rapidly. For the purpose of allowing the point to easily pass through the ground in use the rib 4 is pointed at its front or forward end, as illustrated at 7, said rounded top being located a short distance back of the forward end of the point.

It will be understood that by providing the rib 4 less metal will be required to produce the main body of the point, thereby lessening the expense and at the same time locating sufficient amount of metal upon the cutting edge of the point to produce a point that a plow-point provided with lugs at its front end and a flange located between the lugs, and a rib located upon the cutting edge of the point and upon the under side thereof, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
