SA'IENT ERNEST F. PFLUEGER, OF AKRON, OHIO.
BAIT-SWIVEL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 632,200, dated August 29, 1899,
Application filed March 28, 1399. Serial N0- 710,794. (N0 model.)
T0 all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ERNEST F. PFLUEGER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Akron, in the county of Summit and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Swivels; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appcrtains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure l of the drawings is a front elevation of the swivel. Fig. 2 is a side view of same. Fig. 3 is a central longitudinal section of the invention.
This invention is designed to provide an improved swivel particularly adapted for use in connection with fishing-tackle for connecting the hook or bait to the line; and the invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts, all as hereinafter described, and pointed out in the appended claim.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, the letter A designates the swivel link or body, which is formed from a narrow piece or strip of sheet metal bent upon itself to form the closed end-loops a and the intermediate straight portion a. Bent around said straight portion and covering in the ends of said piece or strip is a tie-band A.
B B designate the swivel-pins.
These consist of ordinary pins of the proper size, according to the size of the swivel to be formed, their headed ends being passed loosely through apertures in the end loops at, their shanks bent to form the closed loops 1), and their point portions bent around the shanks between the heads and the loops 1), the extreme points being closed down against the ends of the coils, whereby such points are guarded by the coils and a neat finish is formed. a
A swivel can be constructed in this manner very simply and cheaply and is a very de sirable and effective device wherever small swivels are required, as in fishing-tackle.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The herein-described swivel, consisting of a body or link portion formed of a narrow elongated piece of metal, bent upon itself to form closed end loops, and a contracted straight connecting portion, a tie-band bent around said straight or connecting portion confined by said loops, and closing in the ends of said piece or strip, and headed-end pins engaging loosely apertures in said end loop, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ERNEST F. PFLUEGER. Witnesses:
F. W. W'AKEMAN, H. D. I-IosKIN.
