ALLAN MGLEAN, OF INGALLS, OKLAHOMA TERRITORY. Y
ATTACH M ENT Fo R PLows.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 629,965, dated August 1, 1899.
Application iiled March l5, 1898.
To all whot it may concern.:
Be it known that I, ALLAN MCLEAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ingalls, in the county of Payne and Territory of Oklahoma, have invented a new and useful lmprovement in Plows, of which the following is a specilication.
My invention relates to single-beam plows, and has for one of its objects to provide a device adapted to be attached to any single-beam plow and convert it into a sulky-plow.
Another object of my invention is to provide a device for converting a handplow into a sulky-plow which may be attached to any single-beam plow, one part on each side, each part being adjustable separately near the front or rear, as desired.
Another object of my invention is to providcadevice convertinganysingle-beam plow from a hand into a sulky plow and provided with means of vertical adjustment on each side independently.
These objects I accomplish in the manner and by the means hereinafter more fully described in detail and particularly pointed out in the claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which like refer-- ence-letters indicate like parts in all the rigures.
Figure l is a top plan view of my invention applied to a plow. Fig.' 2 is a side elevation of my invention in an operative position. Fig. 3 is a detail View of slide. Fig. 4 is a detail view of notched slot. Fig. 5 is a detail view of end of slide-brace.
illy invention consists of a frame A, of suitable material, preferably metal, in two parts,
both of which are exactly alike. Each part of the frame A is rectangular and has the side toward the plow-beam B open. The ends ci the frame A on this open side are bent at right angles and adapted to rest against the side of the beam B, to which they are firmly secu red at any desired point by clips C, which pass around the beam B. A wheel D, of suitable material and construction, preferably with oval steel rim, tread tire, metal spokes, cast hub, and steel boxing, is mounted on a spindle-E, securely fastened to a perpendicu lar slide F. The slide F is of suitable material, preferably metal, and consists of two members, inside and outside, between which pivot.
Serial No. $73,993. (No model.)4
is a vertical groove. Midway the closed side of the frame A, opposite the beam B, the inside member of theslide F is slidably secured by a clamp'G. Between the inside and outside members of the slide F, at the top, a le'- ver H is pivotally secured througha slot in said lever H. A link I pivotally connects the front outer corner of the frame A and the end of the lever H, which is slotted to receive the Secured at the rear outer corner of the frame A and extending in a curve' toward the front is an arm J, having a longitudinal slot j, provided on one side with notches l j. The lever H moves up and down in the slot and is provided on the inner side with a spring la, which bears against the smooth side of the slot j and tends to press the lever H into the notches j'. From the top of the inside member of the slide F a brace K extends It will be observed that the parts of the frame A may be attached to the beam B exactly opposite each other, in which case one clip will serve to fasten both rear ends to the beam B and one clip to fasten both front ends, While another clip fastens the ends of the steel N and braces K and L in the center, or one part may be placed near the front end of the beam B and the other on the opposite side of the beam B, near the rear, when additional clips must be used as needed.
Having thus described my invention, what l claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. Aframe composed of two exactly similar parts, each part mounted on, a wheel and adapted to be attached on one side of a singlebeam plow in any desired position alongsaid beam, converting said plow into a sulky-plow, substantially as shownand described.V l I 2. A frame'composed of two exactly similar parts, each part mounted on a wheel and ICQ adapted to be attached on one side of a singlebeam plow in any desired position along said beam, converting said plow into a sulky-plow, provided with means for adjustment at ditferent depths in plowing, substantially as shown and described.
3. A frame composed of two exactly similar parts, each part Amounted on a wheel and adapted to be attached on one side of a singlebeam plow in any desired position along said beam, converting said plow into a sulky-plow, provided with means for independent adjustment of each side, at different depths in plowing, substantially as shown and described.
4. A frame composed of two exactly similar parts adapted to-be attached one on each side of any single-beam plow in any desired position along said beam, each part mounted on a Wheel and vertically movable with reference to the axis of said Wheel, substantiallyv as shown and described.
5. A frame composed of two exactly similar parts adapted to be attached one on each side of any single-beam plow in any desired position along said beam, neach part consisting of a rectangular frame open on one side, the ends on that side turned out at right angles and adapted to be fastened by clips to said beam, a Wheel mounted on a spindle secured to a vertical slide, a vertical slide adapted to receive the closed side of said frame, a curved arm secured to the rear outer corner of said frame and extending upward and forward, said arm provided with a longitudinal slot having notches on one side, a lever pivotally mounted in the top of said slide and passing through theslot in said arm, said lever provided With aspring adapted to press said lever into said notches, a link'connecting the front end of said lever and the front outer corner of said frame, a seat fastened to one end of a leaf-spring and braces extending from the tops of said slide and said arm, the free ends of said braces and said spring being,r fastened to said beam, substantially as shown and described.
