Be it known that I, DAVID C. JORDAN, sr., of thc city of Brooklyn, Kings county, and State of New York, have invented a. new and useful Improvement in Door Locks;v and I do hereby declare that the following is a. full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in the combination of a revolving disk, two or more bolts, catch, and stop, in such a manner as'to lock the door, with two or more bolts, by means ot' a key. The peculiar construction of the catch prevents the lock from being ,picked" without great difliculty.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation. I

v A is a metallic case', constructed in the usual way. B is an ordinary lock-bolt; Z1 b b arethree rods extending out from the three other edges of the lock, and havescrew-threads-at their outer ends to attach bolts to; these bolts extend across the door, so as to lock into sockets fastened to the jambe, top, and side, and also into one at thevbottom ofthe door.v The inner ends ofthe rods are fastened to the disk C; this disk is rotated by means of akey, K, or knob, F, and the movement of this disk throws the bolts into thcirsockcts, or draws the bolts from their sockets, as may be desired. The bolt IS is moved 4by means of a pin, i', fastened to the diskvC, which works in a slot in the bolt. There is a lever, cZ, figs. 3 and 4, hung so as to turn at W, iig. 4; this lever surrounds the spindle ofthe loc-k t, and has a pin, g, at one end of it. The pin g just tits into a hole in the disk 0,1(see iig. 3,).and is kept pressed either into this hole or into the hole g2, tig. 3, by means of a spring (not shown in the drawing.) This pin glprevents the disk from being rotated, acting as a catch. A portion ofthe spindle t is made hollow, and has a smaller spindle, m, inserted in the'hollow. Through the small spindle mis a pin, o, which extends through a 4slot in thc large spindle, and restsuponthe liever CZ. When the pin g is pressed in thev hole in the dis-k, the outer end of the hollow spindle andthe outer end of the small spindle are even with each other. The spindle t extends through the casings ot the lock, and has a knob, F, attached to its end; this spindle is held in its position by the socketu, through which it passes. There is alpi-ate, a, figs. 4 and 5, secured to the case, through which is the key-hole. On the inner 'side of this platea stop, s, is fastened. K is a key, having a hole in its shaft, made to tit the spindle t. A pin, Z, of the same diameter as the small spinde m, is fastened in the key. There is also another pin extending out from the guard, or lever, of .the key, which iits into the hole s2 in .the disk. The iigs. 1, 2, and 5, are drawn to a scale of one-half the size of the igs. 3 and 4.
The operation ofthe lock is as follows, to wit: The key is inserted into the key-hole when the bolts are out, and is-then turned till it comes in contact with the stop s; it is then pushed into the lock, the pin on the guard ofthe key entering the hole s2 in the disk; and the pin Z, pressing on the small spindle m, will force the ond of the level' d against its spring, thereby releasing vthe pin g from its hole in the disk. When the key is pressed in to its full limit, the guardp can pass under the stop s, and by turning the key, the disk will be revolved, thereby drawing in the bolts; the door can then be closed, and -locked by turning the key; it will then be Vlocked at the top, bottom, and at both sides. The door may be unbolted from the inside by pressing on the outside end ofthe lever (l, (thereby releasing the pin g from its hole in the disk and turning the knob F.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- Y The combination of the bolts, revolving disk, and catch lever, substantially as described, operating as herein specified, for the purpose set forth.
