WILLIAM VANDERMAN, OF WILLIMANTIC, CONNECTICUT.
rSTAND FOR TOILET ARTICLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 626,739, dated June 13, 1899.
Application led September 28, 1897. Serial No. 653,291. (No model.)
'Toilet Articles, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, where'by any one skilled in the art can make and use the same.
The object of myinvention is to provide a device by means of which a convenient and simple support may be provided for the several toilet articles used about a bath-tub or a washstand, each article having its special place and the parts being so arranged that any desired numberof brackets maybe united to a common support and be adjustable thereon.
To this end my invention consists in a main support in combination with a series of adjustable brackets and means for removably securing them to the support; and it further consists in details of the several parts and the combination of the parts, as hereinafter described, and more particularly pointed out in the claims.
Referring to the drawings, Figure l is a view in elevation of my improved device. Fig. 2 is a detail view, on enlarged scale, showing the joint and clamp by which a bracket is united to the supporting-rod. Fig. 3 is a modified form of clamp. Fig. 4 is a detail View in section through the upper bracket on enlarged scale.
The device as a whole is intended and adapted to be secured to the wall of the room or other suitable upright structure,-and in the accompanying drawings the letter a denotes the support, which comprises a rod b and brackets c cl, the latter having sockets adapted to receive the rod and to hold it a slight distance away from the surface to which the brackets are secured. The lower bracket receives the lower end of the rod, which it closely holds, and the upper bracket c has a socket c', open at top and bottom for the passage of the upper end of the rod and threaded to receive a thimble c, which fits upon the end of the rod and has an exterior thread engaging the threads in the socket-piece. By
this means the socket-piece is removably secured in position.
The object of the rod is to support a number of brackets, each one of which may be used to hold a different, article, and each bracket is supported on a collar f, to which it is united by attaching means g.
In one form the collar f has a stem f' with a socket, in which a packing his located, the inner surface of the socket being provided with a thread engaging the thread on the sleeve g,`the inner end of which fits Within the socket in the stem. The bracket, as t', has an arm i', the end of which extends through this sleeve and is formed to t it, the end of the arm thrusting against the packing h, so that by means of the sleeve g the desired degree of pressure upon the packing may be exerted to clamp the collar and the parts supported by it firmly to the rod. The bracket 1l has also an arm i2, which extends from the lower part of the bracket and has a forked inner end fitting closely the surface -of the rod. By means of this device the bracket is firmly supported, is removable from the rod at will, and may be fastened in any desired position of adjustment vertically on the rod or laterally about it. In the form of device shown inFig. l of the drawings there are illustrated a soap-holder, a sponge-holder, a brush-holder, a comb-holder, and a holder for tumblers, and it is evident that other forms of brackets may be united to a single rod by the means described without materially departing from the invention.
The upper bracket 7c is attached to the rod by a collar Z,Which is integral with the bracketarm and has on one side a stem Z with a threaded socket,`into which the stem of the clamping-screw Z2 projects and beneath which is arranged a non-metallic washer adapted to be forced against the surface of the rod, so as to clamp the bracket in position.
It is intended that the rod b shall be made of any desired length, as it is usable with the brackets c and d, and may be of the required length to support any two or more of the brackets. f
The several parts of the support, including the rod and brackets, may be made of any IOO desired material, and if' of metal may be plated and finely finished, so as to present an ornamental appearance'as a fixture in a room.
I claim as my inventionl. In combination in a device for supporting toilet articles, a set of brackets adapted to be secured toa support iny fixed relative position, one of said brackets having a threaded socket, a screw-threaded thimble having a socket and fitting said threaded socket, a rod` removably supported by said brackets with one end located in thesocket in said thimble, a collar adj ustablysupported on said rod, and a bracket removably `secured to said collar.
2. In combination in a device for supporting toilet articles, a set of brackets adapted to be secured to a support in fixed relative pos-ition, a rod removably secured to said brackets with the latter in-said-fixed position,
a. collar provided with a threaded recess andv supported on the rod, a bracket having an arm with a flange located in the threaded recess lin the collar, and a sleeve fitting the threaded recess in said collar and with its endl thrusting` againstthe fiange on said arm.
3. In combination in a device for supporting toilet articles, a set of' brackets adapted to bev secured to a support in fixed relative position, a rod removably secured to saidy brackets with the latter heldin said fixedposition, a collar provided with athreaded recess and supported by said rod, a packing located in saidy recess in the collar,a bracket having an arm adapted to rest against said packing and With a flange located in the threaded recess in the collar, and a sleeve fitting the screw-threaded surface of the recess and With its end thrusting against the fiange on the-arm.
, 4. In combination in a device for supporting toilet articles, a set of brackets one of which is provided with a threaded socket adapted to be secured to a support in fixed relative position, a thimble provided With a ,socket and fitting the screw-threaded socket in one of said brackets, a rod removably secured to said brackets With the latter in fixed yposition and With one end of the rod in engagement Witha socket in the thimble, a collar having a threaded recess and supported :by the rod, a bracket with an arm. having a fiange located Within the threaded recess in lthe collar, and a sleeve fitting the screwthreaded surface of said recess and with its end thrusting against the flange on said arm.
5. In a device forsupporting toilet articles in combination, a support, a collar having a threaded. recessand mounted on the support, a bracket having an arm with a fian ge located Within thethreaded recess in said collar and a sleeve fitting the threaded recess in said collar'a'nd'with its end thrustngagaiust the fiange on said' arm.
6. In a device for supporting toilet articles in combination, a support, a collar having a threaded recess and mounted on the'sup'port,l a packing. located'r in said recess in the collar, a bracket having an arm adapted to v rest against said packingand With a flange located in the threaded. recess in the collar, and a sleeve fitting, the screw-threaded.surface of the recessand with its'end thrusting against the flange onthe arm;
