Description

No. 626,336. Patented lune 6, I899. L. A. NOBLE.
GUIDE FOR SCISSOBS.
(Applicmion filed Aug. 1a, 1398.
(No Model.)
LOUIS A. NOBLE, OF BOURNEMOUTH, ENGLAND.
GUIDE FOR SCISSORS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 626,336, dated June 6, 1899. Application filed August 18, 1898. Serial No. 688,550. (No model.)
To aZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, LoUIs ALEXANDER No BLE, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain, and a resident of Bournemouth, in the county of IIants, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Guards or Guides for Scissors, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specification.
This invention consists of a new or improved guide or regulator for use with scissors, shears, and the like, the object being to enable a predetermined width or amount of material to be cut.
Referring to the annexed drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation showing my invention applied to a pair of scissors or shears; Fig. 2, a plan view of same; Fig. 3, a section through line 3 3 in Fig. 2.
a and a are the blades of the scissors or shears.
I) is a clipping-piece which engages upon the blade a and carries the regulating apparatus through the medium of a set pin Z, and thumb-piecej, the pin Z passing through the slot m, this being for the purpose of regulating the distance of the plate or from the edge of the blade a. j
K is a set-screw or thumb-piece engaging upon a pin, which passes through a slot m, Fig. 1, in the projection m upon the plate 0.
p is a set-screw which secures the clippingpiece I; to the shank of the scissors or shears through the medium of the clip or collar 0, the position of which may be varied as required.
(Z is a bar or guide connected to the screwrods 0. These rods 6 pass through the bosses 9. Upon these screwed rods 6 the screw-collars f engage, being provided with a flange IL for the purpose of enabling the position or distance of the bar or guide (I from the blade at to be regulated according to the direction which the sleeves or collars f are turned.
2' are graduations or marks for the purpose of enabling the distance of the bar or guide (I from the blade (0 to be regulated as required.
The operation is as follows: When it is required to cut a width of material, the bar or guide (Z is set the required distance from the blade at and by operating the scissors the width of substance from the blade ct to the bar or guide d may be cut from the bulk, the material to be cut passing between the plate at and the blade a and bearing against the bar or guide d.
Although I have shown one form of carrying out my invention, it will be readily seen that there are various details of construction that may be varied without departing from the principle of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In devices for enabling a required Width of material to be cut from the bulk in combination; a casing extending along the blade of the scissors or shears; an adjustable bar or guide carried inside the said casing; two screwed rods upon Which screw-nuts engage for the purpose of adjusting the position of the bar or guide; gradations or marks upon said casing for the purpose of enabling the distance of the bar or guide from the blade of the scissors or shears to be regulated; a bend in said casing adapted to clip one of the blades of the scissors or shears; a screw-clip for securing the casing to the shank of the blade of the scissors or shears, substantially as described and illustrated herein and for the purpose set forth.
I11 testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 2d day of March, 1898.
