THE NORRIS PETERS do Pnm'oumou WASHINGTON, u. c.
NlTED STATES PATENT" OFFICE.
' HENRY A. LITTIG, OF DAVENPORT, IOWVA.
NECKTlE HoLDERi SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 625,889, dated May 30, 1899. Application filed April 10, 1899. Serial No. VIZ/180%- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY A. LITTIG, a citizen of the United States, residing atDaverr port, in the county of Scott and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Necktie-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in devices for retaining neckties in position on the wearer, and has special reference to holders for string ties.
It consists in certain novel features here inafter described and claimed.
In the annexed drawings, which fully illustrate my invention, Figure 1 is a perspective View of the holder, and Figs. 2 and 3 are views illustrating the manner of using the same.
My improved holder consists of a single piece of wire bent to form the narrow loopsA, connected by a central eye B, the ends of the wire being soldered together, so that the device presents a complete integral structure. The central transverse eye Bis closed at one end 0, while the other end presents a contracted opening D, the result of this construction being the formation of a spring-clasp adapted to fit over and clamp the shank of a collar-button.
In practice the end of the tie is inserted through the loops A, with the clasp or eye B on the outer side and the opening in the eye toward the end of the tie, as shown in Fig. 2. The end of the tie carrying the holder is then passed over, under, and up behind the other end of the tie, as shown in Fig. 3, bringing the eye of the holder into engagement with the collar-button. completed inthe usual manner, as will be readily understood.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that I have provided a very cheap and simple device by the use of which the tie will be effectually prevented from rising. The device is small and light, so that when the tie is completed it will be hidden thereby and will not injure the tie in the slightest degree, nor will it incolnmode the wearer.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- I p A holder for string neckties consisting of a single integral structure having two narrow parallel loops through which the tie is passed and an eye or clasp connecting the said loops centrally and arranged at right angles thereto, one end of the eye forming a narrow contracted opening and both ends of the eye coinciding with the sides of the loops whereby the act of forming the tie into a bow will bring said eye into engagement with the collar-button.
In testimony whereof I hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses.
HENRY A. LITT'IG.
Witnesses:
HARRY B. BETTY, HUGO KOEHLER.
