J OIIN BRANDT, OF LONDON,.ENGLAND.
MUSIC- STOOL.
SPECIFICATION forming part ofrLetters Patent No. 621,746, dated March 21, 1899. Application filed September 9J 1898- Serial No. 690,591. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern,.-
Be it known that I, JOHN BRANDT, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at 5 Woodeld Crescent, Harrow road, London, England, have invented new and useful Improvements in Music and Like Stools, (for which I have applied for a patent in Great Britain, No. 10,107, bearing date May 3, 1898,) of which the following is a specication.
My invention relates to improvements in music and like stools; and the object is to provide an easily-operated and cheap arrangement by which the seat of the stool can be raised andllowered within the limits provided for. I attain this object by the arrangement of parts illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Y Figure l is a sectional side View; Fig. 2, a
plan of the sliding frame to be hereinafter re- Fig. 3 is a cross-section through` ferred to. A B, Fig. l and Fig. 4c is a perspective view of a single stool. Fig. 5 is a perspective view showing the triangular pieces of material hereinafter to be mentioned.v
A box c is carried on the legs b, and within the box a. and free to slide to and fro therein is the frame o, the movement of which is brought about by rotating a screw d, workin g in a nut on the frame c. The screw d is kept The frame grooves g, provided forthem in the box d. The frame c carries on opposite sides the triangular pieces of metal or other material h, each having its sloping edge overturned somewhat at right angles, as at h', Fig. 5, the overturned edge entering correspondingly-sloped grooves 1", the sides of an upper box j free to slide up and down in the box d. To the top of the box j is hinged the padded or other seat Zt, under which may be provided the receptacle l for music or other articles, which when the seat is shut down will be within the box j. Chains m or other contrivances can be provided to prevent the seat lc falling over too far when opened. The frame c is shorter than the lengthl of box a.
Assuming the seat to be shut down and the box a lowered as far as possible in box j, then the box ce and the seat thereon can be raised by rotating the screw d, which will draw the frame c toward the screw d, and the overturned edges of the triangular pieces h, acting in the grooves 'L' in the sides of the box a,
will cause it to rise, motion of the box o, in \any other direction not being possible.
As indicated in the drawings, the raising arrangement is applicable to single as well as double seated stools.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In music and like stools a box supported on legs and having within it a second box with a stuffed or other seat: grooves diagonally disposed in two opposite sides of the said second box: triangular pieces `of metal or other suitable material with overturned edges to enter the said grooves: a frame to which are attached the said-triangular pieces of material: a nut in the said frame and a rotatable screw passing through the said nut, substantially as described and illustrated.
