PECiFICATION forming part of Letters'Patent No. 621,318, dated March 21, 1899.
- Application filed June 2,1898. Serial N0. 682,337. (No model.)
To all whont it may concern-.-
Be it known that I, GUSTAV A. BRAOHHAU SEN, a resident of Rahway, Union county, State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Catches, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to catches; and the object of the invention is to provide a simple, cheap, and efficient'catch with the aid of which two partssuch, for instance, as two separable sections of a music-box casingmay be drawn together with varying degrees of pressure and held securely.
To these ends my invention consists in the novel arrangement and combination of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a face view of a catch embodying my invention, the same being shown applied to two different sections which are to be held together by the catch. Fig. 2 is a top view of the same. Fig. 3 is a fragmentary detail perspective view of the catch-plate.
The main or catch plate A (illustrated in the accompanying drawings) is preferably pivoted to a securing-plate a, as indicated at b. This securing-plate a is secured to one of the parts 0 to be united, as indicated in Fig. 1. The catch-plate A is formed with the lever-arm d, which may be provided with a handle e to facilitate moving the plate. A hook f proj sets from the plate A and is adapted to engage a pin 6, carried by a securingplate h, which is secured to the other part i to be united to the part c. The inner engaging face of the hook f is eccentric to the pivot b, so as to form a segmental cam which by a series of steps 7', formed therein, gradually approaches nearer to the pivot 12. These steps or shoulders areadapted to engage the pin g and maintain the catch in any of the locking positions to which it is moved by the handle c, it being understood that the steps will overcome the natural tendency of the catch torelease itself and yet will allow the catch to be readily released when the arm (1 is turned in the direction of the arrow. When the arm d is moved to the left, the inner face of the hook is brought into engagement with the pin g, and the farther the arm is moved in that direction the greater will be the force thereby exerted on the pin g to draw the parts 0 and i together.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
In a catch, the combination of a pivoted hook having an inner pin-engaging face eccentric to the pivot thereof to form a camface which by a series of pin-retaining steps gradually approaches nearer to the pivot and a pin which said steps are adapted to engage, whereby various degrees of pressure may be exerted by said hook to tighten the parts and the hook can be maintained in any one'of several positions.
GUSTAV A. naAcrn-musnu.
