UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRED GEORGE \VHITE, OF AURORA, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO JOSEPH BRITT, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
PNEUMATIC SHOE-STUFFER.
' SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 619,108, dated February 7, 1899.
Application filed July 6, 1898. Serial No. 685,228. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRED GEORGE WHITE, of Aurora, in the county of Lawrence and State of Missouri, have invented a new and Improved Pneumatic Shoe-Stuffer, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact de-' scription.
The invention relates to display articles for show-windows and the like; and its object is to provide a new and improved pneumatic shoe-stuifer arranged for conveniently and quickly stuffing a shoe or like foot-gear to give it the desired shape for displaying and other purposes.
The invention consists of novel features and parts and combinations of the same, as will be fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improvement as applied on a shoe, the latter being shown in section. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the improvement with part in section. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a rod for placing the device in proper position in the shoe.
The improved shoe-stuffer consists of an inflatable bag A, made of rubber or like material and in the form of a shoe or boot B in which it is to be used for properly stuffing or expanding the shoe the same as if on a persons foot. The bagA is preferably closed at the upper end by a cloth top 0, as is plainly shown in the drawings, and into the upper end of the bag leads an inflating-tube D, adapted to be connected with a suitable device for filling the bag with air, so as to expand the same. When this has been done, the filling-tube D is closed by any suitable closing device E to keep the air within the bag, so as to retain the shape of the stuffed shoe.
In order to place the bag A in proper position in the shoe or boot B, I provide the forward end of the bag at the toe portion with a small hood or cap F, adapted to be engaged by the pawl G, held on one end of a flexible rod G, provided with a suitable handle G \Vhen the pawl G engages the hood F, the operator can conveniently push the toe portion forward in the shoe until the toe portion of the bag is in register with the toe portion of the shoe. The rod G can then be withdrawn from the shoe, and then the bag is filled with air and expanded, as previously explained, to give the desired shape to the shoe.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- As a new article of manufacture, a pneumatic shoe-stuifer, consisting of an inflatable l bag in the form of a shoe, said bag being provided at its toe end with a hood F whereby to receive a rod for pushing such end in the toe of a shoe, as set forth.
FRED GEORGE WHITE.
