-F. W. MANGER. COMBINED HOLDER.
[Application filed Apr. 30, 1898.)

,INVENTOR JWf/f] NlTE S'ra'rns ATENT rrrcn.
COMBINED HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 618,425, dated January 31, 1899. Application filed April 30, 1898. Serial No. 679,385. (No model.)
To all whom, it 77710;] concern: I
Be it known that I, FREDERICK W'ILLIAM MANGER, a resident of the borough of Brooklyn, New York city, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to an improvement in combined holders, and more particularly to such as are adapted to receive a sponge and cake of soap, the object of the invention being to provide a holder of the class mentioned which shallbe ornamental in appearance, comparatively cheap to manufacture, and which will be most convenient when in use.
A further object is to provide a combined soap and sponge holder, each part separate and distinct from the other, which will permit of the movement or adjustment of the soap-holder in the sponge-holder, and means for securely holding the soap-holder in the position desired.
With these objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view illustrating my improvement, and Fig. 2 is a view of the soap-holder detached.
A represents a sponge-holder, and B a soapholder connected therewith. The spongeholder A comprises a rectangular frame 1,
composed, preferably, of stout wire, and has secured thereto by means of suitable couplings 2 a series of downwardly-curved wires or yokes 3, whereby to form an open compartment for the reception of a sponge.
Two or more lugs or ears 4 4 are secured to the frame 1 and provided with keyholeslots 5 to receive pins or projections 6 on bendable arms or supports 7, adapted to be bent to clutch the edge of a bath-tub and support the device thereon.
The soap-holder B comprises a frame 8, of I strong wire, preferably rectangular in shape and provided with rounded corners, as shown, and has secured thereto a series of wires or yokes 9, preferably of smaller diameter than the frame, thus forming an open compartment for the reception of a cake of soap. To each end of said soap-holder a spring-clamp 10 is secured. Each clamp is composed, preferably, of a piece of spring metal bent between its ends to partially encircle the frame and be secured thereon by any approved means. The ends of the clampare bulged outward and then curved inward at their ends, whereby to securely clamp the frame 1 when the soapholder is placed thereon.
It will be seen from the above description that myimproved soap-holder can be placed at either end of said sponge-holder, as may be desired or convenient, due to the side of the.
tub on which the device is secured, and it will be seen that when it is desired to hold two sponges in the holder the soap-holder can be placed in the center or middle portion of the sponge-holder.
Various slight changes might be made in the general form and arrangement of the several parts described without departing from the spirit and scope thereof, and hence I would have it understood that I do not wish to limit myself to the precise details set forth, butconsider myself at liberty to make such slight changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope thereof.
Having fully described myinvention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. As an article of manufacture, a combined sponge and soap holder, supports for said sponge-holder and means for adj ustably securing the soap-holder to said sponge-holder at any point intermediate the ends of the latter.
' 2. As. an article of manufacture, a combined sponge and soap holder, comprising a frame for said sponge-holder a soap-holder and clamps secured to said soap-holder and removably and adj ustabl y engaging said frame.
3. As an article of manufacture, a combined sponge and soap holder, a frame for said sponge-holder, supports secured to said frame and the soap-holder provided with springclamps adapted to removably secure said soapholder to the sponge-holder.
4. As an article of manufacture, a combined holder consisting of a rectangular frame, a series of bent wires or yokes secured to said frame comprising a sponge-holder, a frame provided with bent wires or yokes secured thereto comprising a soap-holder and spring-clamps secured to said soap-holder and adapted to engage and clutch the frame of the sponge-holder and secure the soap-holder thereon.
5. As an article of manufacture, a combined sponge and soap holder, said soapholder supported by the sponge-holder and means for detachably' securing the soapholder in said sponge-holder at any point intermediate the ends of the latter.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
FREDERICK WILLIAM HANGER.
