Be it known that I, MARY L. RUEL,of New York, (Brooklyn,) in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Roller-Skate Shoes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to combined roller skates and shoes.

In the use of roller-skates much annoyance and irritation is incident to the method of attaching the skate to the foot of the user. Indeed, to strap the skate or look it to the shoe often requires such compression of the foot as to be positively painful or become so in a very short time after it has been applied.

The object of myinvention is to avoid these disagreeable incidents and do away with the annoyance and loss of time involved in strapping the skates on, and thereby to make this sport more attractive and agreeable.

The invention consists in the combination of rollers, a pair of bolsters or risers carried by the rollers, and a shoe permanently fixed upon and supported by the bolsters.

In the drawings, Figure l is a side elevation of my combined shoe and roller-skate. Figs. 2 and 3 are front and rear elevations, respectively, the latter having a part broken away to show the outer solo in section and the fastening device in side elevation. Fig. 4. is a bottom plan of the outer sole of a shoe, showing the attaching means. Fig. 5 is a plan of the bolster or riser.

6 is the shoe, having outer soles 7, and 8 is a fastener for coupling the bolster or riser with the outer sole 7 of the shoe. In the form in which I have shown my invention the riser is provided with four arms; but obviously the riser formed essentially like an inverted tripod will answer the same purpose. The rests 4 have oblong holes 5 for the reception of the fastener 8, which is essentially of the shape and character of a McGill paper-fastener, made of sufficient thickness and substance to lessen the resistance to motion, and thereby insure great speed. The rollers are also to be surrounded by a rubber band to render them noiseless and make them durable. The bands can be easily replaced when Worn. While the shoes maybe made of any suitable material and in any style, I propose to make them generally of canvas or similar goods, such as used for base-ball.

A combined skate and shoe made according to myinvention permits of the elimination of the ordinary frame or foot-rest necessary in order to produce a roller-skate. The combination therefore is lighter than the ordinary roller-skate and shoe when the two are removably connected together.

The advantages of my invention are numerous and obvious. Among .these advantages may be enumerated the saving of time, the durability of the combination as a whole, freedom from noise, comfort, neatness, and lightness, and by reason of the narrower tread easy motion and consequent increased speed.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is=

In a roller-shoe, the combination of rollers,

a plurality of bolsters or risers carried by saidv rollers, a shoe, and a T-fastening for coupling the shoe with the risers adapted to pass in and out through said outer sole and be riveted or clenched on the inside of the outer sole, substantially as described.
