TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be' it known that I, HENRY MITCHELL, of Dayton, Montgomery county, State of Ohio, have invented a new and improved Movable Handle for Sad-Irons; and I do' hereby declare the following to be an exact vdescription thereof, reference being hadto the laccompanying drawings and to lthe letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specication. I
Figure 1 represents the sad-iron with its movable handle.
Figure 2 represents an end viewl of the handle with the spring,r catch.
The nature of my invention-consists in the construction of a wooden, movable handle, with a socket :it one end, and a spring catch at the other end, so as to keep the handle always cool.. i
A represents the sad-iron, B thc uprights of the handle, curved, and having at'the top round or ilu/cl points to enter the ends ofthe handle C. The back cnd of the handle is lat on the top, at D. so as to iit the hand easily. It has around or angular-shaped socket, E, to allow the round or flat point of' the upright B to lit in. At the opposite end of" the handle C there is a spring catch, G, attached by screws or otherwise, and made of any material. On the top of the spring is a thumb-piece, H, made of. wood or other material, for thc purpose of APressing back the spring G to relieve and disconnect it with the point of the upright B at any tilne the handle need to be removed. In the centre of the spring is a square or round aperture, J, into which the point of the upright catches, and holds thc handle firmly. The spring and handle are never heated by the sadiron, but are always cool to work with and to handle.
What I claim as my invention,'land desire to secure by Letters Patent, isl The construction of the handle'C, socket E, spring-catch G, and thumb-'piece H, or their equivalents, when arranged, combined, and operated as herein described, for the purpose of having a movable and cool handle at all times.
