IMPROVED NUTMEG GRATER.
ilg .rlgemle refemi tu in time letters @mit :mr'mirkng part nf tige tame,
TO A LL PERSONS TO WHOM TlzIESlL1 PRESENTS SHALL COME:
Be it known that I, WILLIAMBRADLEY, of Lynn, in: the county of Essex, aud State of Massachusetts, have invented anl improved Nutmeg Grater; and do hereby declare the Same to be fully described in the following specification, and represented in the accompanying drawings, of which- Figure 1 is a front elevation. i
Figure '2, a longitudinal section; and
Figure 3, a transverse section of it, the latter section being taken through the spout and the abrasive plate thereof.
In the drawings, A denotes a cylindrical box, having an opening or'hole, a, made through its side. Within the Said' box is a tube, B, whose external diameter is equal or about equal to the internal dia-meter of the box, its length being about thatiof the distance between the two'ends of the box. 4This tube B has a holemade through' its side in correspondence with the hole a, and it also has a lip or4 projection, b, extending upward from the edge of the hole and through the saidho'le'a. By means of this lip, the tube ,may be turned within the box so as to either cover or uncover the mouth or opening a,thereof`, the lip serving as a stop to arrest the cover in either of its extremes of movement. -There projects from the box, in manner as shown in the drawings, a spout,
C, each side edge of which is turned over with respect to the remainder of the spout, in manner as shown at c c, in iig. 3, the same being to enable an abrasive or rasping surface or`plate, D, to be slidinto the spout lengthwise and against the box', and be maintained in connection with the spout by the lips or parts c c. This plate is to be foraminous, and have bnrs projecting upward from the several holes, or it may be otherwise formed with a rasping external surface. lByso applying the grating plate D, to the spout, such plate, after having become A worn or its rasping teeth or bur's may become dulled, may be easily separated from the spout and a fresh'one be put in its place. The-box not only answers to hold the nutmegs, but as a convenient handle for supporting the grater while in use. The advantage oflth-.e box made in the manner described is that the cover has n o hinges to wearout or become brokenr- I claim-the combination and arrangement of the boxA, and its rotary tube B, with the spout and rasping plate as specied, such box and tube being made with openings through theirsides, and with a stoppingrlip b, and the plate D, being applied to the space C, substantially as described. l
, WM. BRADLEY.
