W. SMALLWOUDV SWIVEL FOR FISHING TACKLE.
(Application filed July 12, 1398.
(No Model.)
NITED STATES WVILLIAM SMALLWOOD, OF REDDITCH, ENGLAND.
SWIVEL FOR FISHING-TACKLE.
PATENT OFFICE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 612,576, dated October 18, 1898. Application filed July 12, 1898. Serial No. 685,731. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM SMALLWOOD, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain and Ireland, residing at the Lion Works, Redditch, in the county of Worcester, England, have invented a new and useful Swivel for Fishing-Tackle, of which the following is a specification.
- My invention relates to an improved swivel for fishing-tackle.
The object of my improvement is to provide means for making such swivels solely from wire. I attain this object as shown in the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 is a front elevation, and Fig. 2 a side elevation, of the upper portion of the swivel. Fig. 3 is a front elevation, and Fig. 4a side elevation, of the lower portion of the swivel. Figs. 5 and 6 are respectivelya front and a side view of the complete swivel.
In Figs. 1 and 2, A is a loop, and B the coils, forming a tubular shank made from a length of wire.
In making the lower part of the swivel shown at Figs. 3 and 4 a length of wire is headed, as D, the free end being passed through the tubular coil B, the head D seating itself on the top convolution of the coils B and immediately under the loop A, the
shank O passing down between the coils and being free to rotate therein. The remaining portion of the wire is twisted into theloop A and the coils B, Figs. 3 and 4, which operation completes the swivel, as shown in Figs. 5 and 6.
What I claim is-- 1. The swivel for fishing tackle herein shown and described, the same being made from two lengths of wire comprising the loop A and coil B and the shank C and head D terminating into the coil B and the loop A as set forth.
2. In a swivel, the combination, with a wire loop, the end'portions of which are twisted together spirally thereby forming a hollow coil; of a second wire loop provided at one end with a shank which engages with the said coil and which has a head above the said coil, the other end portion of the last said hand in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM SMALIJ WOOD.
