lINITED STATES` l PATENT l` l. EEICE.
AUGUST ROCHVITE, OF WAUTOMA, WISCONSIN, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TOW. R. HAMMOND, OF SAME PLACE.
`^ DOOR-HANGER.
SPECIFICATION forming partei Letters Patent N.' 611,395, dated september 2'?, 189s.
Application filed November 20. 1897. Serial No. 659,306. (No model.) l
I To @ZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that l, AUGUST Rocnwrrn, residing at Wautoma, in the county of Waushara and State of Wisconsin, have inventedY a new and useful Door-Hanger, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in door-hangers; and the object of the same is to provide a hanger by meansof which a sliding door, when closed, may be swung into the door-opening and fit snugly against the jamb thereof, ,so as to render the door weathertight.
Vith the above object in view the invention consists of a track, roller-frames connected together and carrying rollers which l and afterward specifically pointed out in the claim.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention most nearly appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, having reference to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in Which-- A Figure l is a perspective View of my invention, the door being shown open. Fig. 2 is a top plan View. Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view of one of the roller-frames and the crankrodconnecting the door thereto. Fig. 4 is an end elevation of my improved hanger, the position of the crank-rods being shown in dotted lines when the door is swung outwardly from the door-opening. Fig. 5 is a detail sectional view of one of the securingbrackets and the lower end of the crank-rod. Fig.. 6 is a detached perspective View of one of the rollerfra1nes, brackets, and crankrods.
Like letters of reference mark the same parts wherever they occur in the various Iigures of the drawings.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, A designates a track which is secured to the partition above the door, as illustrated in Fig. l, and B the roller-frames, in which the rollers C are journaled, said rollers moving upon the track.
Brackets D are secured to the door adja- .cent its upper edge and provided with the upper and lower bearings E for the crankrods F, which extend therethrough and are secured therein by nuts G upon their lower screw-threaded extremities. The upper vertical arms Hof these crank-rods extend through passages in the central webs I of the roller-frames, the upper ends of the crankrods being bent angular, as illustrated, and connected by the rod J, which is pivoted thereto.
`K is a stop and is designed to arrest the movement of the door at the proper point to permit the latter to be swung into the doorA opening.
When it is desired to open the door, the latter is swung outward, the crank-rods permitting such movement, when the door may be moved laterally upon the track.
By connecting the crank-rods they move simultaneously, so that the door may be swung outwardly from either edge, while a rod L, connecting the roller-frames, prevents the spreading of the latter during the swinging of the door. Thus the swinging of the door is easily and readily effected, it being greatly facilitated by the above-mentioned connection between the free ends of the crankrods.
Whenit is desired to close the door, the same is moved laterally until the roller-frame comes in contact with the stops K, when the door will swing into the door-opening and abut snugly against the j ambs, thus rendering the door weather-tight.
By having the lower ends of the crankrods screwthreaded either end of the door can be readily raised should sagging of the same occur at any time.
From the above description it will be seen that I have produced a door Which When closed fits snugly against the jambs and which may be quickly and readily swung`out- Ward to permit lateral movement thereof and also in which sagging is prevented.
While I have illustrated and described the best means noT known to me for carrying out my invention, I do not Wish to be understood as restricting myself to the exact details of construction shown and described, buthold thatany slight changes or variations such as might suggest themselves to the ordinary mechanic will properly fall Within Y. the limit and scope of my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
In a door-hanger, the combination with a track, of carriers movable thereon, crankrods pivotally connected to said carriers and to the door and having their upper ends bent angular, and a rod pivotally connected to said angular ends, substantially as set forth.
A. ROCHWITE.
