WINDOW-SCREEN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 61 1,113, dated September 20, 1898. Application filed December 13, 1897. Serial No. 661,637. No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, LUTE A. FIELD, acitizen of the United States, residing at J anesville, in the county of Rock and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window-Screens, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to cover the entire window with screen material secured in two sashes movable in independent grooves,
the frame made in sections andhinged together.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a vertical central section of my improved window-screen shown in isometrical. Fig. 2 is an isometrical representation of the complete window-screen in its folded condition.
The frame of the screen is composed of a lower section 1 and upper section 2, connected together by hinges 3. Each section-is provided with lengthwise grooves 4 and 5, made to coincide when the'sections are in their extended or open position. The upper section 2 has an opening 6 in its face communicating with the groove 5, and the lower section has a screw 7 communicating with the groove 4:. The frames 8 are the same in construction, each supporting a Wire screen 9. To the frame for the upper section of the main frame is connected a cord 10, passing through the opening 6 and connected to the knob 11, secured to the section. The lower window-opening.
screen-frame has an openingl2 in its lower rail, and when the frame is raised the screw 7 will pass through'the opening, holding the frame elevated, and by means of the cord 10 the upper frame may be allowed to drop by its own gravity and can be raised and held in its closed position.
The sections comprising the main frame may be secured to the inside of the windowcasing or can be fitted and placed within the In either case eithersash of the window can be raised or lowered by raising or lowering the screen-frames, and when the window-frames are adjusted the screen-frames are closed, thereby excluding all insects, as the screen does not interfere with'the working of the windows.
By making the main frame in two parts hinged together the frame will occupy little space when folded and'stored away during the winter.
I claim as my invention? A window-screen composed of two sections hinged together and each provided with two grooves coinciding with each other when the sections are in their, extended position, a screen-frame for eachgroove, whereby the frames can be moved into either section.
LUTE A. FIELD.
