To all whom t may concern:

Beit known that we,GEORGE W. ROBINSON and LOUIS STELZER, citizens of the United States, residing at Valbert, in the county of Franklin and State of Missourhhave invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Chicken-(loops, and we do decla-re the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

Our invention relates to a folding chickencoop; and the object is to provide a coop of this character that may be folded into small compass when not in use, thereby materially reducing the cost of transportation.

With this obj ect in view the invention consists in certain features of construction and combination of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view showing the coop set up ready for use. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing it closed, and Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view through the coop when set up.

In said drawings, 1 denotes the bottom of the coop, provided at its side edges with rails 2.

3 denotes the ends, which are hinged to the upper side of the bottom and are adapted to fold down between the rails 2.

4 denotes the side pieces, which are hinged to the upper edge of the rails 2, and are adapted when the coop is in use to fold up against the ends of the end pieces', and when not in use to fold down upon the end pieces.

5 denotes the top or cover, which when not in use is adapted to be placed upon the folded side pieces.

Having thus described the construction of the coop proper, we Will now proceed to describe the various means for fastening the parts together when the coop is in use and when it is folded or knocked down for transportation.

The upper rail of each end piece is provided on its inner side with longitudinal grooves and below said grooves with eyes 7 and springhooks 8, and the side pieces have at their ends grooves 9, formed by the parallel cleats 10. In setting up the crate, after the end pieces have been raised the side pieces are then swung up and the cleats engaged with the ends of the end pieces, thereby preventing any movement of said end pieces. The side pieces have at their ends links or chains l1, which are adapted to be passed over the staples 7 and held in engagement therewith by the spring-hooks 8, that pass through said staples, thereby holding the side pieces in vertical position. pieces have been set up the coverissl'id into the groove 6 of the end pieces, and to hold the coverinplace I provide it at its opposite edges with hasps 12, that are locked to eyes 13 on the outer surfaces of the side pieces by spring-hooks 14. In its folded position the end pieces are folded against the bottom, the side pieces folded upon the end pieces,and the cover placed upon the side pieces. The hasps of the cover now engage staples 16 in the outer sides of the strips, and spring-hooks 17 are employed to hold the hasps to the staples.

Having thus described our invention, what we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
