Be it known that I, ALLEN JAMES GARLEY, of Belmont, in the parish of Sabine and State of Louisiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Hoe-Slings, of which the following is a specification.

My invention is a hoe-sling which is also adapted for use on rakes' or long-handle shovels and is designed to reduce the labor of using such implements and so enable the workman to accomplish more work with `greater ease; and the invention consists in certain novel constructions and combinations of parts, as will be hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.

In the drawings, Figure l shows the invention as in use. Fig. 2 is a detail view of the sling, and Figs. 3 and 4. are detail views of one of the elastic sections.

As shown, the sling is formed with a shoulder-strap A, which goes over the shoulder and has at one end the long tab B for connection with the narrow elastic section O and connects at its other end with one end of the draft elastic section D, whose other end has the tab E. The tab B connects with the buckle I) of the narrow supplemental elastic section C, such section C havingl the tab G, which tab and the tab E of section D connect with the buckles e and g on the upper end of the elastic hanger-section H, which is supplied at its lower end with the snap-hook I.

The several elastic sections are made alike of sections of elastic webbing folded upon itself twice to present folds at both sides and reinforced at its ends by the leather covers, (shown at I in Fig. 3,) and which are useful in effecting secure connections between the webbing and the parts joined thereto as well as for keeping the webbing folded, as desired.

The strap J is in practice tacked to the handle of the implement and has a ring K, which can be readily snapped in to the hook I.

The narrow supplemental section O is intended to keep the shoulder-strap in place, preventing it from slipping on the shoulder, and also relieves the body of the workman from jerks and jars in case the hoe strikes anything solid in the ground..

It will be seen that the supplemental section O is of lighter tension than the draftsection D, so it will give more and prevent any dragging of the shoulder-strap across the shoulders, the several elastic straps operating to take up the weight and jar of the hoe, and the draft-section D,together with the supplemental section C, operates to draw the hoe through the ground in making a stroke, thus saving much of the labor in hoeing.

Vhere desired, the sling can be readily adjusted from right to left hand by reversing the shoulderestrap and changing the connections of straps C and D with the hanger-section I'I.

The sling is simple, inexpensive, durable, and will be found to save much of the labor in the use of hoes, rakes, long-handled shovels, and similar implements.

It will be understood that my invention will be useful in connection with plow-stocks and scything-cradles and other like devices, as well as with hoes.

Having thus described my invention, what I claimas new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

l. A-sling for hoes and the like comprising a hanger-section, a shoulderstrap and independent elastic sections between the ends of said shoulder-strap and the hanger-section substantially as set forth.

2. A sling for hoes and the like comprising the shoulder-strap, a hanger-section and elastic sections of different tension between said shoulder-strap and the hanger-section substantially as set forth.

3. A sling for hoes and the like comprising the shoulder-strap, elastic sections connected therewith and composed of webbing folded twice upon itself and having at its ends reinforce or cover straps substantially as set forth.

4. The herein-described sling for hoes and the like comprising the shoulder-strap, the elastic sections at the ends thereof, the hanger-section having its upper end buckled to the elastic sections at the ends of the shoulder-strap and means at the lower end of the hanger-section for connection with the hoe substantially as shown and described.
