HUBERT C. HART, OF UNICNVILLE, CONNECTICUT.
WRENCH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0. 609,146, dated August 16, 1898.
Application filed December 22, l89x7lv Serial No. 662,976. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HUBERT C. HART, a citi-` zen of the United States, residing at Union#` and bent into form, with an integral stud for the operating-nut, thereby materially reducing the expense of manufacture and providing a simple and powerful wrench at a minimum cost.
i With this object in view the invention consists of certain features of construction and combination of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure lis a side elevation of a Wrench constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a blank before it is bent into the form of a strap and jaw, and Fig. 3 is a view of the blank after it has been bent into the desired shape.
In said drawings, l denotes the handle of the wrench, having at one end a fixed jaw 2, and having on its under edge a series of teeth 3, cut in the pitch of a screw.
et denotes the sliding jaw, 5 the strap, and 6 the pintle. These parts are stamped out of a piece of plate metal to the form shown in Fig. 2 and then bent into the form shown in Fig. 3, thereby forming a jaw,-strap and pintle, the edges of the latter being iiled down to make them round to receive the operatingscrew 7, which is held in place by upsetting the outer end of the pintle. The ends of the blank forming the jaw, after they have been folded to the position shown in Fig. 3, are secured together by rivets S.
By constructing the jaw and the strap in the manner shown and described it is evident that the cost of production will be greatly lessened, thus enabling the wrench to be placed upon the market at a greatly-reduced cost.`
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. As a new article of manufacture,a sliding jaw, strap, and pintle for a wrench stamped from a single piece, the blank being bent centrally of its width to form the strap and then brought together and riveted to form the jaw and pintle, substantially as set forth.
2. A wrench consisting of a handle having a fixed jaw, and having teeth of screw pitch on one of its edges, a sliding jaw and strap consisting of a piece of plate metal bentinto shape and riveted together and provided with an integral pintle, and a screw swiveled upon said pintle and engaging the teeth of thehandle, substantially as set forth.V
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
