HEATING STOVE.

TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Be'it known that-I, ZIMRI HUSSEY, of Wilmington, in the county of Will, and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Heating Stoves; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, made part of this specifieation, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view, parts being represented as broken away so as to show the internal structure.

The same letters in the different figures refer to identical parts.

A represents the case of an ordinary cylindrical heating stove, having a door, B, and grate-bars, C, for wood or coal. D is a damper, placed below the grate for the regulation of the draught. E is a similar damper, placed near the top, and F is the pipe. The cover H fits the top of the cylindrical case A. It is constructed substantially as represented, having an opening in its centre, under which is attached, in any convenient manner, the pipe G. This internal pipe, G, I form in the shape of an ordinary cows horn. It is not round, but oval, being flattened on the sides so that it shall interfere as little as possible with the draught of the stove. It is curved, so that, passing from the opening in the centre of the top, it shall, descending with a regular taper, pass through a suitable aperture in the side of the stove opposite to the door. It thus avoids interfering with the introduction of the fuel, while the flame'passes freely on each side of and around it. Being open at both ends, as it is heated a rapid current of air will flow through it, which will pass in a highly heated state into the room, thus adding very considerably to the heating capacity of the stove Without at all increasing the consumption of the fuel.

I do not claim to be the first to have constructed a heating chamber in the middle of the upper part of a. stove and ventilated from below, for this, I am aware, has been done before; but what I claim as my invention, and seek to secure by Letters Patent, is-- I A heating stove constructed with a laterally flattened and curved internal flue or pipe G, opening upwards through the top H, and downwards through the side of the stove; and having a draught opening, D, below, and

a regulating damper, E, above the fire; said several parts being constructed and arranged for use substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
