object is to provide a simple, inexpensive,

and easily-manipulated clip device which may be readily detached from a shirt-waist,

which will adapt itself readily to the creased. or plaited fabric, and which will not-be liable to tear the fabric when a strain is thrown upon it.

The supporting device is also adapted to hold closed the placket-opening in the skirt and to take over and keep down a waist-belt.

In the accompanying drawings I have illustrated an embodiment of the invention, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective View of one member of the waist-clip, and Fig. 2 is a similar view of the other or outer member of said clip. Fig. 3 is a plan view showing these members of the clip engaged or interlocked and the skirt supported thereon. Fig. 4 is a rear view showing the device in use, as in Fig. 3. Figs. 5 and 6 are sectional views on a larger scale than the principal views and designed to illustrate the construction and use of the device. The planes in which these sections are taken are indicated, respectively, by the lines 00 and m in Fig. 4. Fig. 7 is an inside view of the skirt-waistband at the back, showing the fiat hooks attached thereto by stitches; and Fig. 8 is a View of one of these hooks shown as provided with a shieldpin for securing it to the skirt.

The member B also has two keepers b? struck up from the plate Z2 and at its upper edge an outwardly overhangin ghook 19 In securing the waist-clip to the waist X the memberA is placed inside the Waist at the back and at the proper elevation, the studs (1' being pressed outwardly against the thin material of the waist, so as to form protuberanoes on the 'outer face of the fabric. The member B is then placed and pressed down, so as to cause the slots 19 therein to interlock with the necks of the studs a, which latter will be embedded in the fabric. The fabric about and inclosing the studs will cause the members to interlock tightly.

' On the waistband y of the skirt Y are secured at the respective sidesof the placketopening 1 Fig. 7, two fiat hooks c a, properly spaced to suit the spacing of the keepers b on the member B of the waist-clip, so that when the latter is on the waist the hooks 0 may be made to engage said keepers, as clearly shown in'Figs. 3, 4:, and 6. Thus the skirtissupported by the engagement of the hooks c with the Waist-clip, and as the hooks 0 cannot spread'apart the engagement with said clip prevents the opening of the placket at the b and and tends to take the strain off from hooks or other fastenings that may be used on the waistband of the skirt.

The member B ofthe clip has or may have on it the hook I) to take over a waist-belt D. (Seen in Figs. 5 and 6.)

The hooks a may be secured to the skirt in any known Way, either permanently or removably. In Fig. 7 I have shown them as sewed on, and in Fig." 8 I have shown one provided with a shield-pin c for securing it. The hooks cmay be set low down on the Waistband of the skirt, so that they do not appear above it, if desired. This is a matter that may be left to'the taste of the user.

Having thus described my invention, I claim- 1. As an improved article of manufacture, a skirt-supporter, comprising a removable clip for attachment to the waist, and a hook for attachment to the skirt, said clip consisting of an inner member having headed studs on its outer face, and an outer member; having open slots adapted to engage the stems of the respective studs when the fabric of the waist is clamped between the clip members, and having also a keeper to receive the hook on the skirt.

2. The combination with a hook to be secured to a dress-skirt, of a clip adapted to be removably secured to the dress-Waist for supporting the skirt, said clip comprising the inner member A, provided with headed studs a on its outer face, and the outer member B, consisting of a plate I), having in its lower edge open slots Z), spaced to engage the studs on the inner member A, and keepers 19 on its outer face to receive the supporting-hooks on the skirt, substantially as set forth.
