.lhe object of my invention is to make a brooch in which the front plate orshell of the brooch is strengthened and supported by the ,back plate at the central portion ot the brooch,

and the pin-with which the brooch is secured to the wearing-apparel is iirmly locked with its; point covered like a safety-pin. The front plate or shell of the brooch is covered with a oelluloid covering7 witha photograph or other picture secured beneath the Celluloid cover ing and united to the covering to make a permanent attachment between the two, which will not only exclude any dust from getting between the picture and the Celluloid, but will preserve the photograph for a long period from discoloring and otherwise deteriorating. l also place about the periphery of the brooch a band, making a finish either in gold or other ininh such as is used for ornanionting brooehes.

My invention cone-ists of the parts and coinblnations of partshereinafter fully described and made the subject-matter of the claims hereof.

My brooch consists of what l term a front plate or shell A, preferably ol' thin metal, having a turned-over annular flange or rim l. I cover this front plate or shell with Sheeteelluloid t), to one side et which l unite a photograph or other picture l) by Soaking the photograph-print in a prepared liquid and then pressing the two under a heated iron, causing the photograph or other picture to unite permanently to the Celluloid. The Celluloid is large enough to extend over the annular ilange or -rim ll of the fron-t plate or Serial No. 629,161. By securing the pin in th( back plate ofthe brooch before the parte of tne brooch areasseinbled I ain `enabled to facilitate the assembling of the parts by reason of being able to connect the pin with the back plate in asul- Iioiently permanent` manner to handle the back plates in quantities before they are connected to the Afront plate.

The fact that thc pointed portion of the pin passes through a hole in the back plate asniets in keeping it in the back plate. The back plato also has a slot K, through which the point el the pin pauses. The. slot is of ,such shape that it creates a tongue L, extending downwardly in the Shoulder M, that is formed in the back platebypressingtheeentral portion ot' tho plate l-` inward, as above described.

NVhen the straight-pointed portion of the pin inserted in t-he garment, itis pressed through the slot l and under the tongue L, which locks itl securely in place.

The other edge of this band or rim, after the brooch is inserted in it, isswagedl against the under edge of the brooch to secure the gold rim to the brooch. The back plate of the brooch is secured to the front plate or'shell of the brooch by placing the .flange G ot' the back plate within the'ange B of the front plate, and theledge of the cel-- luloid covering of the front plate is clasped between the two to secure. the celluloid to the front plate of the brooch.

It will be observed that I can secure my brooch to the garment with the ordinary pin attached to the band of the brooch; but I prefer to use the pin herein shown and described, because it is more cheaply made and attached to the brooch and .brings the brooch closer to the garment to which it is attached, also covers the point of the pin, and also locks the In lnanufactu ring thesebrooches Ifn-d that I am able to make a gold-inished brooch with .j celluloid photo fronts, the cell uloid fronts l 'veryessential and important that the front plate orsvhell is strengthened and supported by the-back plate being` brought in contact with the central 'portion' of the front plate.

Having described the construction and operation of my invention, what I claim, and

desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. As a new article of manufacture,a brooch composed of the continuous front piece, A, having the turnedover rim portion, B; with 'the back piece having the turned-over rim B, the depressed concaved portion, G, cooperating with the vrijm'igiortion,

against the central portion of the front piece, A, to strengthenit, said front andpback pieces forming an arch-likel structure, and the undepressed portion, E, between the rim' portion, G, and the depressed portion, lF; and means for attaching said-brooch to a garment, substantially as described.

2. As a new article of manutarature@d brooch Acomposed of the continuous frontpiece, A,

having the turned-over rim portion, B; with the back piece having the turned-overriin portion, G, cooperating with the rim portion,

B, the depressed concayed portion, F, resting against the central portion of the front piece, A, to strengthen it, said flfont and back pieces forming an arch-like structure, andthe uridepressed portion, E, between the rim portion, G, and the depressed portion, E; and the pin secured beneath the undepressed portion, E, and having Aits body portion, H3,

emerging from the shoulder M between the portions, E and F, and caught by the tongue, L, formed by the notch, K, in said shoulder, substantially as described.

3. In a brooch, the combination of the back piece having the turned-over rim portion, G, the depressed concavedportion, F, and the undepressedpor'tion, E; with the pin, H, conn sistin g of the curved portion, Il', in the channel between the rim, G, and the portion, F, and secured by the turned-over tongue, J, or" the rim, G, and the straight portion, H3, projecting through the aperture, J, in the undo'- pressed portion, E, and caught by the tongue, L, formed by the notch, l, substantially as described. 1
