CHARLES VVMULCHAHEY, OF SPRINGFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS.; Letters Patent No. 0,226, {Za-ted December 4, 1866; antcdated November `Q5, I865. i
SP`EC.`JICE"IC.A.'IICDJ'.
TO ALL WIIOM IT MAY CONCERN: i
i Be it known 'that I, CHARLES MULCHAHEY, of Springfield, Hampden county, Commonwealth of Massachw` sett-s, have invented a new and improved Boot-Blacking Brush; and I do hereby declare that the-following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had tothe accompanying drawings, and to letters `oi' reference t i marked thereon.
This invention consists in arranging on the upper side of an ordinary polishing brush a box of blacking,
and attaching to the cover of the same the smaller brush used to spread the paste. In thedrawings- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention.
Figure 2 is a cross-section of the same.
Figure 3 is a plan view of the cover of the box and smallbrush.
Figure 4 is a plan view of the brush with the cover of the box removed. i
In construction I usually attach to the top of the polishing brush, A, 'the rim, B, inside of which I place the box of blacking, C, secured in place by the set-screw a and points b b; over this I place the cover D, having on its top the small spreading brush c, provided with a handle d; this cover fits over the rim B, thus preventing vthe drying ofthe blacking when closed andfurnishing a convenient brush for spreading the paste when removed` from the box. I
In` using this arrangement, I remove thesmaller brush and spread on the paste with it, and in doing this and in taking it from the box I have a convenient handle, E, and the box being fastened to the other brush, also havinga handle, the fingers arenot soiled by being brought in vcontact with |the blacking, as is the case ordinarily. I do not wish to confine myself to the exact arrangement herein described, as I may attach thebox in a different manner, and the small brush may even be used separate from the larger and not attached to the top of the box, or the cover of the box may be attached to the polishing brush and the box itself set in it, as desired. New, having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- .y 1. Attaching to the to? of an ordinary polishing brush for boots, shoes, Ete., a blacking box tted in a case B, formed to receive it. I
2. Attaching to this box, or to the case which is formed to receiveA it, the smaller spreading brush c, by meansof a rim or cover, arranged as shown and described. Y
