COMPOUND FOR MAKING WRITING-INK.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 59.549, dated November 1 3, 1866.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, A. D. BOWMAN, of the city of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Compound for Making Writing-Ink; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
My invention consists in a compound composed of extract of logwood, bichromate of potash, and prussiate of potash, the same to be mixed with water or other suitable liquid for making writing-ink.
The compound is composed of the following ingredients, in about the proportions specified: extract of logwood, thirty-two (32) parts; bichromate of potash, six (6) parts; prussiate of potash, one (1) part.
These ingredients are carefully pulverized in any proper way, and then mixed together and shaken, so that a thorough commingling will take place. The compound may then be done up in any appropriate Way for the market.
In making ink with the compound I find that if five hundred and eighty-five (585) grains be put into one (1) gallon of Water an excellent ink of a consistency to flow freely from the pen will be produced.
