W. RODENHAUSEN.
WAGON GHUTE.
No. 591,057. Patented Oct. 5,1897.
nummmmm Muff, 1% WWW!!! I I "07 III/III/II/A WILLIAM RODENHAUSEN, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
WAGON-CHUTE;
SPECIFICATION forming part of LettersPatent No. 591,057, dated October 5, 1897. Application filed June 3, 1897. $erial1lo. 639,256. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM RODEN- HAUSEN, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Discharges for WVagon-Chutes, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.
My invention consists of an improvement in discharge for wagons, carts, 850., whereby the contents of the same may be directed to either side thereof or to the rear.
Figure 1 represents an elevation of a discharge for wagons, carts, &c., embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a plan view thereof. Fig. 3 represents a horizontal sectional view on line a: 00, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the figures.
Referring to the drawings, A designates the tailpiece or rear wall of a wagon or cart, to which are suitably secured the posts B, the same being cut away, as at O, forming guides for the gate D, which controls the usual opening in the wall A, and to which is pivoted the link E, the same being movably attached to the handle F, one end of which is pivoted to one of the posts B. Secured to the said posts B and to the rear wall A is bottom piece G, which is provided with the side walls 11, which are situated at an angle to the wall A and serve to direct the contents of the wagon in the proper manner. V
J designates a plate which is secured to the posts B above the bottom piece G and has one end of a pin K mounted therein, the other end of said pin being supported by said bottom piece G, said pin K carrying a movable guide L, which has hinged thereto the plate M, either end of which being adapted to abut against the guide L, as desired, so that the parts will be held rigid when the free end of the plate M bears against one of the sides H or is placed against the shoulder N, which is formed by the sides H and the posts 13.
The guide L and plate M are of such size that they will pass between the plate J and the bottom piece G on either side of the pin K, when desired, it being noted that the rear of the tailpiece is open.
The operation is as follows: When it is deindicated by the arrow in Fig. 2, the guide L is moved to the opposite side, the plate M being turned so that one end thereof bears against the guide L and the hinge is away from the wall A, one end of the plate M restin g against the shoulder N, and the parts will thus be held securely in place and effectually close the opening in the tailpiece, excepting that through which it is desired to discharge. The wagon can now be raised and the gate opened, the contents of the wagon being guided to the proper place.
When it is desired to discharge on the side opposite to that in Fig. 2, the guide L and plate M are moved to a position shown in dotted lines, Fig. 3, and the contents of the wagon will be so directed.
If it is desired to discharge directly in the rear of the wagon, the guide and plate can be moved to a position seen in Fig. 3, this being permitted by placing the said guide and plate as shown in dotted lines, Fig. 2, and thus passing the side walls H and between the bottom piece G and plate Jr I do not desire to be limited in every particular to the parts as herein shown and described, but desire to make such changes as may come within the scope of my invention.
Having thus described my-invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is 1. A discharge for wagons, carts, Szc., havsired to empty the wagon or cart to the side ing a tailpiece with an opening therein, posts at the sides of said openings, a bottom piece extending in the rear of said tailpiece, side walls on said bottom piece adjacent to said posts, a plate secured to the latter, a swinging plate journaled at one'end, at or near the central portion of the outer end of said bottom piece, and having a plate pivoted to its free end, said latter plate being adapted to abut against either of said side walls.
2. In a discharge for wagons, a tailpiece with an opening, the posts B at the sides of said openings, the gate 0 guided on said posts, the bottom piece G secured to said posts, and extending rearward of said tailpiece, the flaring side walls H forming the shoulders N with said posts, the plate J secured to said posts, the swinging plate L having bearings in the outer ends of said plate J and bottom piece G, and having the plate M pivotally' secured thereto on its outer and free end and adapted to contact With said shoulders N.
3. In a discharge for Wagons, carts, &c., a tailpiece with an opening therein, a rear- Wardly-extending bottom piece With flaring side Walls at the inner end or portion, and a plate having one of its ends jonrnaled on the outer end of said bottom piece and having on its free end a plate centrally pivoted thereto so as to fold on either side thereof and adapted to contact With either of said flaring side Walls.
4.. A discharge for Wagons, carts, &c., having posts, a bottom piece secured to said posts, side Walls, a plate secured to said posts, a guide pivoted to said plate and said bottom piece, and a plate hinged to said guide and adapted to abut against said Walls or to pass the latter.
