Description

(No Model.)
A. R. KRUM. CASKET HANDLE.
Patented Sept. 28,1897.
INVENTOR I UNITED STATES P TE T Orrrcn.
ADELBERT R. KRUM OF OSIIKOSII, \VISCONSIN, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO DANIEL C. BUCKSTAFF, OF SAME PLACE.
GAS KET-HANDLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 590,947, dated September 28, 1897.
' Application filed March 11,1897. Serial No. 627,004. (No model.)
,To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ADELBER'I R. KRUM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oshkosh, in the county of Winnebago and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Casket-Handles; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the in vention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
I 5 My invention relates to improvements in casket-handles; and it consists in certain novel constructions, combinations, and arrangements of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a side view, the handle being down, so as to show a top view of the arms. Fig. 2 is a side view of the arm closed, anclFig. 3 a side view of the arm with the bar-socket open.
2 5 Fig. 4 is a vertical section on the line a; 00.
Similar letters refer to similar parts in each view.
A is the handle-bar, and B the arm.-
O is the bar-socket. The lower portion of the socket O is pivotally connected to the two arms a c, and the opposite end 0 is securely attached to the upper portion by the screw 0, thus providing a strong and secure means of fastening.
5 The design of the upper portion 0 conforms with the design of the lower portion 0, and when locked together the pivot D is the only part of the device visible.
Heretofore in casket-handles the socket O 40 has been cast in one piece and the size of the bar A the entire length has conformed to the size of the socket-O, so that it could be inserted from the side through the sockets in the several arms and then secured in the proper position by a set-screw or otherwise. 5 In this form of construction each set of arms was particularly adapted to one size and style of bar.
By means offlmy invention one size of arms is adapted to any size or design of bar, the 5o ing the outerend of the socket O, as other known methods of safely securing the outer ends maybe used, and my method of attachment may be also reversed, so that the pivotal connection D may be at the outer portion of the socket C for the same purpose.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a casket-handle the combination with a bar, of arms having eyes or sockets to surround the bar, the sockets being formed of an integral portion of said arms and a pivoted portion, the upperend of said pivoted portion being pivoted to the integral portion and 7 5 means for securing the lower end thereof to the lower end of the said integral portion below the bar, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
