FRANCIS FRYE, OF TIME, ILLINOIS.
I MPROVEMENT IN WlNNOWING-WIACHINES.
Specification formingpart of Letters Patent No. 58,630, dated October 9, 1866.
i'o all whom it may conoci it:
Be it known that I, FnANcis FRYE, of Time,
'in the county of Pike and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Tinnower 5 and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, tornr ing part of this specification.
The nature ot' my invention consists in so combining an eccentric to an upright lever which is connected to a screen or fan for cleaning grain as to produce aregular longitudinal reciprocating motion to the screen of a winnower.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
Figure l is a side elevation ot1 my improved fan. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical sectional elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is also a side elevation ofthe same opposite from Fig. 1.
Letters of like name and kind refer to like parts in each of the iigures.
A represents the frame ot' my improved fan, made of wood, of suitable dimensions, which supports the machinery ot' the fan. B is the hopper, which is also made of wood, and located upon the top of the frame A and immediately over the screen or riddle C. D is a lever attached by a pivot at the lower end to the frame, and extends up, and at the top is a cross-beam attached, upon which rests 'the screen G. In this lever D is a slot, a., in which is fitted and works an eccentric, E, which is made fast to the tan-shaft F, and to which are connected the fans G, that run in the fancase H. I is a spur-gear wheel, that is secured to a shaft that runs in proper bearings J, that are secured to the frame A. This gear-Wheel I is provided with teeth that mesh into a corresponding pinion, K, that is secured to the fan-shaft F.
L is a detlecting-boa1d,that conducts the grain as it falls through the screen to the opening at O, where the grain enters the air channel or throat, when itreceives the action ot' the blast and falls down and is discharged at the` claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent. is-
1. The eccentric E and lever D, in coinbination with the hopper B and screen C, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
2. The lever D and eccentric B, in combina tion with the fans G, for the purposes and substantially as herein shown and described.l
FRANCIS FRYE.
