G. W. DAVIES. SHUTTER FA'STENER.
No. 579,294. Patented Mar. 23, 1897 Wm 2882's Imam 2'01? the sill, and is provided with two uprights 1O Trice.
PATENT GEORGE W. DAVIES, OF MOBILE, ALABAMA.
SHUTTER-FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 579,294, dated March 23, 1897.
Application filed August 7, 1896.
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. DAVIES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mobile, in the county of Mobile and State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shutter-Fasteners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to shutter-fasteners.
My object is to provide an extremely simple, cheap, and strong fastener for shutters or blinds which will be adapted to lock the shutter and prevent the same from being opened except from the inside.
The invention consists of certain details of construction and novel combinations of parts appearing more fully hereinafter.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a View in side elevation of a section of window sill and blind, showing the fastener locked; Fig. 2, a sectional elevation thereof, and Fig. 3 a front view looking toward the inside of the blind.
The numeral 1 designates a section of an ordinary blind or shutter, and 2 a section of a window-sill.
The improved locking member, which is connected to the shutter, is designated by the numeral 3, having its shank protruding into an opening 4 in the blind and pivoted on a pin 5.
The numeral 6 designates a wear-plate. This locking member is provided with a loop or ring 7 and has a downwardly-extending cap 8. The loop serves a double purpose. It receives an improved style of locking-pin, to be described hereinafter, and it also affords a grasp for the fingers.
My improved keeper is designated by the numeral 9, being formed of a single piece of strong wire which has its ends sunk deep in Serial No. 602,041. on model.)
When the blind closes, the catch of the locking member connected thereto rides up over the looped portion of the keeper and drops down, so as to come into engagementtherewith. The locking-pin is now passed through one eye of the keeper, the ring of the locking member, and then through the other eye of the keeper. When thus disposed, the eye at one end of the pin and the hook or bent portion at the other end thereof will prevent the pin from being jarred out of the keeper and the locking member, so that the blind or shutter will be held locked in a highly superior manner, but the pin can be removed by hand at any time and the locking member raised, so that the blind may be swung open.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a blind or shutter fastener, the combination with a locking member pivoted to the blind and provided with a ring and a catch, of a keeper fastened to the Window-sill and comprising uprights, eyes, and a cross-piece,
a locking-pin having an eye at one end and a hook at the other end, and a flexible connection between the eye of the pin and one of the uprights.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GEORGE 'W. DAVIES.
W'itnesses:
CHAS. W. MOGRAW, L. SOHWARZ.
