B. E. MEYER. FAN ATTACHMENT FOB, SEWING MACHINES. No, 572,021. Patented Nov. 24, 1896.
INVENTOR ATTORNEYS.
UNITED STATES BERTI-IOLD E. MEYER, OF
PATENT OFFICE.
SPRINGFIELD, MISSOURI.
FAN ATTACHMENT FOR SEWING-MACHINES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 572,021, dated November 24, 1896.
, Application filed June 16, 1896.
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, BERTHOLD E. MEYER, of Springfield, in the county of Greene and State of Missouri, have invented a new and Improved Fan Attachment for Sewing-Machines, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved fan attachment for sewing-machines and other light-running ma chinery, the attachment being very simple and durable in construction and readily ap plied to or removed from the fly-wheel of the machine.
The invention consists principally of a slotted ring-shaped frame formed with apertured bosses, hook-bolts held in the said slots of the frame and adapted to engage the spokes of the fly-wheel, and fan-wings having shanks engaging the said bosses and adapted to be secured therein by set-screws.
The invention also consists of certain parts and details and combinations of the same, as
will be fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference inclicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improvement as applied to a sewing-machine. Fig. 2 is a face view of the improvement applied to the fiy-wheel. Fig. 3 is a sectional side elevation of the same on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a face view of the ring-shaped frame. Fig. 5 is a sectional plan view of the improvement on the line 5 5 of Fig. 2, and Fig. 6 is a side elevation of part of the ringshaped frame and the means for fastening it to the fiy-wheel.
The improved fan attachment is provided with a ring-shaped frame A, formed with a series of segmental slots A and apertured bosses A projecting from the face of the frame between the ends of adjacent slots.
The inner face of the ring-shaped frame A is adapted to fit into the fly-wheel B of a sewing-machine or other light-running machinery, with the inner face of the frame resting against the spokes B, as plainly indicated in Figs. 3 and 5. The frame A is secured in place on the spokes B by hook- Serial No. 595,751. (No model.)
bolts 0, adjustablyheld in the slots A and hooking onto the spokes B, as-plainly shown in the drawings, with special reference to Figs. 2, 5, and 6.
The apertured bosses A are adapted to be engaged by the shanks D of the wings D, extending radially from the ring-shaped frame, as plainly indicated in Fig. 1, and the Wings are cut out at their inner ends to fit over the peripheral surface of the fly-Wheel, as indicated in Fig. l.
The shanks D are adapted to be fastened in place in the bosses A by set-screws E or like fastening devices.
Now it will be seen that by the arrangement described the operator can readily set the fan-wings D at any desired angle by adj usting the said wings with their shanks in the bosses A and then fastening the shanks in place by the set-screws E. It will further be seen that the entire attachment can be readily fastened in place on the fly-wheel or removed therefrom whenever desired.
The entire device is very simple and durable in construction, not liable to get out of order, and cheap to manufacture.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A fan attachment, comprising a slotted ring-shaped frame, formed with apertured bosses, hook-bolts held in the slots of the said frame and adapted to engage the spokes of a fly-wheel, and fan-wings having shanks engaging the said bosses and adapted to be secured therein, substantially as shown and described.
2. A fan attachment for sewing-machines, comprising a ring-shaped frame formed with segmental slots and with apertured bosses projecting from the face of the frame between the ends of adjacent slots, hook-bolts held in the said slots and adapted to engage the spokes of a fiy-wheel,fan-wings having shanks fitted into the said bosses, and set-screws screwing in the said bosses to fasten the shanks in place, substantially as shown and described. BERTHOLD E. MEYER.
