IMPROVEMENT IN MEASUR lNG-FUNNELS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 55,941, dated June 26, 1866.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, A. H. WHITNEY, of Portland, in the county of Cumberland and State of Maine, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Funnels or Tunnels; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being made to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 shows a side perspective view of my invention; Fig. 2, asection of the same.
The object of my nvention is the production of a funnel in Whic liquids can be retained for the purpose of being measured, in order to dispense with the employment of numerous measures of various sizes and capacities.
, My invention consists i-n fitting a funnel with a stop-cook, by which the neck of the same can be closed; in marking\upon the interior of the cone-shaped portion a scale, by which any desired quantity of liquid can be ascertained and measured; and in the co -bined use of certain other devices, hereinafte1 explained. A represents a funnel having the stop-cock B fitted into the neck thereof, so that the neck can thereby be opened or closed at will.
F shows a form of a graduated scale to measure any desired quantity of liquid in the funnel. O is a circular flange to enable the funnel to rest evenly and securely on the top of the neck of abottle. D represents an air-vent to permit the free exit of the air as the bottle is filled.
By means of my invention the offices of a funnel to turn liquids into bottles or jugs and of measures to determine a certain amount are combined in a single article of much greater cheapness and convenience than those ordinarily employed for these purposes.
The handle H renders the funnel convenient when used as a measure.
