IMPROVEMENT IN SUGAR-MOLD TIPS.

Specification forming part ot' Letters Patent No. 55,888, dated June 26, 1866.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, FREDERICK NrsHwITz, ot' Williamsburg, in the county of.Kings and -State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sugar-Mold Tips; and I do hereby declare that the following' is a full, clear.` and exact description ot' the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which make part of this speciiica-tion, and in which- Figure l represents, in elevation, a sugarmold with myimproved tip, andFig'. 2 is a vertical section lthrough the middle of Fig. l.

Experience has led to the selection of papiermache as the material best adapted for use in sugar-molds, it being less expensive and subject to fewer objections than any other. It is, however, still so costly and so difficult to make land repair theseI molds that any means by.

It is my object to economize both in money and labor the use ot' papier-mache molds 5 and to this end my invention consists in applying aseparate and separable tip of a peculiar construction to a papier-mache mold and securing the two together by means of a clamp or screw, which can readily be removed when desired, either for repairs or renewal of any ot' the parts.

In the accompanying drawings, A A A A represent the frustum of a conical papier-mache sugar-mold, which may be tinished to the proper distance in any of the ordinary ways. The inclined portion of this frustum is left unfinished, and is iitted closely overa metallic tip, D D, having a drain-tube, B, fitted to its apex. A con- A tinuous interior surface is thus formed by the parts A and D. A screw-thread, O, is out upon the outside of the drain-tube B. A conical metallic cap, E E, of dimensions corresponding,r with its purpose, is now slipped over the drain-tube, and lits closely upon lthe inclined portion of the mold, and a conical clamp, F, havingra screw-nut on its inner surface, is run upon the drain-tube B and screwed as tightly as required, the bell or flare of the clam p pressing equably upon the cap E E and drawing it tight upon the papier-mache, which is thus firmly held between the inner metallic tip, D D, and the outer metallic cap:

By simply unscrewing the clamp the cap E can be removed, the papier-mache stripped from the tip D, and a new frustum h'tted to the tip, or such repairs made as may be required, when the parts can be replaced as before. Y

This tip may be applied to molds of various materials, but I prefer those lnade of papier? mache.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. A separate and separable tip for sugarmolds, constructed and operating,` substantially as described. y

2. Clamping the body of the mold between an inner inet-allie tip and an outer metallic cap, substantially as described.
