Description

' "J. A PARTRIDGE.
, w -STOVE LEG.
N 554 832 Patented Feb, 18, 1896.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JASPER A. PARTRIDGE, OF SAYLESVILLE, RHODE ISLAND.
STOVE-LEG.
' SIEGIFIOATION forming part of Letters Patent No..554,832, dated February 18, 1896.
Application filed November 29, 1895. $erial No. 570,414. (No model.)
.same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in stove-legs in which an adjustable casterbearing pin is attached to the interior of the leg and arranged to project variably therefrom; and the purpose of my invention is to' provide a stove-leg which can be so adjusted as to enable the stove at all times to be set perfectly level upon an uneven floor without the necessity of wedges or blocks. This object is attained by the contrivance shown in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a sectional View through the stove-leg sidewise; Fig. 2, a rear view of the leg, and Fig. 3 a cross-section through 0 O of Figs. 1 and 2.
The same parts are represented by the same letters throughout.
The leg P, Fig. 1, has cast upon it the lug a, which is perforated to admit of the passage of the bolt 0. This bolt has a square shank (Z, which projects through a square opening d in the bottom of the leg f and carries upon its lower end the caster e.
The adjustment of the caster with reference to the leg is effected by the nuts b b, fitting the threaded portion of the bolt 0. By means of these nuts the caster may be made to project any reasonable distance from the leg, thus enabling it to be adapted to uneven or irregular floors.
The square shank d prevents the turning of the bolt in case the stove is moved from one locality to another upon the casters, and is of a size to slide easily in the hole d when adjusted.
The use of my invention will render very much easier the setting and adjustment of a stove in a level position with any kind of a floor, and will obviate the necessity of unsightly and inconvenient blocks and wedges for leveling purposes.
Having now described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A stove-leg having a perforated lug a projecting inwardly therefrom, and a bolt 0 fitting said perforation and adjustable therein by means of nuts, said bolt projecting downward through the bottom of the leg substantially as shown.
2. A stove-leg having a perforated lug proj ecting inwardly therefrom, and having also a fiat foot with a square opening therein; a bolt having a square shank sliding in said square opening, the upper portion of said bolt passing through the perforation in said lug, and adjustable therein by means of the nuts I) b, all in combination with a caster 0, substantially as shown.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
