SOLOMON OONRATII AND SAMUEL KRIDER, OF OOOKPORT, PENNSYLVANIA.
BROOM-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters ?atent No. 554,657, dated February 18, 1896.
Application filed August 28,1895. Serial N0. 560,724. (N0 model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, SOLOMON CONRATH and SAMUEL KRIDER, citizens of the United States, residing at Cookport, in the county of Indiana and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Broom-Holders; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to certain new and u scful improvements in broom-holders of that class designed to be secured to a wall or other support and to grasp or bind the broom by the handle, so that the lower end may be held at any required distance from the floor and yet permit of the ready removal of the broom when desired for use.
The holder embodies spring-arms for holding the broom-handle, eyes or their equivalent for the reception of the nails or other means by which the same is secured in position, and hooks for the hanging thereon of the dust-brush, dust-pan, or any other article.
The holder is formed of a single piece of spring-wire, can be made at a trifling cost, is strong and durable, and the arms can be adj usted to regulate the pressure upon the handle of the broom.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will hereinafter appear, and the novel features thereof will be specifically defined by the appended claim.
The invention in this instance resides in the peculiar construction of the holder, whereby it is better fitted to serve the ends and functions required of it.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the holder. Fig. 2 is an elevation showing a broom-handle grasped thereby.
Like letters of reference indicate like parts in both of the views,
In oonstructin g our broom-holder we take a piece of spring-wire of the proper length and bend it at the center of its length to form the bend a and the parallel arms a, the upper ends of which are extended forward, as seen at h, and thence downward to constitute the arms 0, substantially parallel with each other and with the arms a, being curved and bent at their lower ends, as seen at cl, and the wire thence extended upward to form the springarms 8, which diverge, as shown, and extend above the portions 1) and at their upper ends are formed with the coils f, the free ends of the wire being extended and bent upward to form the hooks g, upon which may be hung the dust-brush or any other desired article.
In practice the holder is secured to the wall or other support by nails or other securing means engaging the coils or eyes f and the broom-handle is inserted between the arms 0, the spring-arms 6 connected therewith yielding to permit of the yielding of the arms 0 and then resuming their normal position to grasp and firmly hold the broom-handle, yet permitting of its being removed when desired by a sudden pull thereon.
Vhat is claimed as new is- The herein-described broom-holder, formed of a single piece of spring-wire bent at its center to form the bend a and the parallel arms a, the upper ends of which extend at a right angle thereto and thus downwardly to form the parallel arms 0, said arms being provided at their lower ends with bends d, from which extend the spring-arms c, divergent, as shown, said divergent arms being formed with coils f, and terminatin in upwardlyextending hooks g, substantially as and for the purposes specified.
In testimony whereof we have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
SOLOMON OONRATI'I. SAMUEL KRIDER. Witnesses S. A. KRIDER, O. B, Mmvsrrownn.
