UNITED STATES I PATENT OFFICE.
OTTO HENRY HUEBEL, OF BROOKLYN, ASSIGNOR, BY DIRECT AND MESNE ASSIGNMENTS, TO LEO FRANK, OF NEYV YORK, N. Y.
MOVABLE SOAP-CU P.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 553,467, dated January 21, 1896.
Application filed May 14, 1895. Serial No. 54:9,8Q4. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OTTO HENRY HUEBEL, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Movable Soap-Cups and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to an improvement in soap-holders, the object being to provide a simple, cheap, and attractive device from which the removal of a cake of soap may be eifected without the employment of means independent of the soap-holder or without removing same with the hands.
With this end in view my invent-ion consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts, as will be hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improvement, and Fig. 2 is a sectional view of same.
A represents a supporting-bracket, one end of which is preferably provided with a button having screw-holes for the reception of screws for the attachment of said bracket in its operative position, while the other or forward end of said bracket is bifurcated, forming projecting arms 2 3, each of which is bent in the form of a right angle, and when taken together they constitute three sides of an 0blong square. Secured to bracket A and at the juncture of the arms 2 3 is a forwardlyprojecting stop or rest 4, which latter is preferably parallel with the bottom edge of arms 2 3, and is adapted to project slightly beyond said arms, for the purpose to be hereinafter referred to.
The soap dish or tray 5 consists of a continuous upper rim or edge 6, to the bottom face of which is secured a series of shallow U shaped wires or strips 7 which latter constitute the sides and bottom of the soap dish or tray. Each end of tray 5 is provided with a trunnion 8, said trunnions being located a short distance forward of the center and adapted to be mounted in bearings 9 carried by arms 2 3. The front of tray 5is provided with a pull or finger rest 10, by means of which tray 5 is quickly and easily operated. Tray 5 is supported in its horizontal or operative position by means of stop or rest at, which latter comes in contact with the under face of rim 6 when said tray is in its operative position and prevents a rearward movement below the position above referred to. By providing bracket A with stop or rest 4 and by pivoting tray 5 to said bracket at points forward of the center it will be seen that accidental forward tilting of tray 5 is prevented, for the reason that the greater weight carried in said tray will at all times be in the rear of the pivotal points where it is supported by stop or rest at.
From the foregoing it will be seen that my invention is very simple in construction, cheap to manufacture, ornamental in appearance, and easy of operation. To remove a cake of soap from tray 5, pressure is applied on pull 10, which tilts the tray forward and deposits tho soap therein on the palm of the operators hand. After pressure is removed from pull 1O tray 5 immediately assumes its normal position.
My invention can be manufactured in combination with sponge-racks, tooth-brush holders,&c. It can also be provided with a springclamp' adapted to grasp the edge of a bath tub, washstand, or like article, in lieu of the means described for securing it in position.
- Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a soap holder, the combination with a pair of supporting arms, of a soap dish comprising a continuous rim or edge pivoted at one side of its longitudinal center in said supports, U-shaped strips or wires secured at their ends to said rim or edge, whereby the lower portion of said wires or strips is sufliciently below the rim so that a deep receptacle is formed for the soap, and a stop arranged to limit the movement of the soap dish in one direction, said stop located to enter between two wires or strips and engage the rim or edge, substantially as set forth.
2. As an article of manufacture, a soap holder comprising a supporting arm which latter is divided to form two members and provided with a stop, a soap dish pivoted at one side of its center in the outer ends of the memspecification in the presence of two subscribbers of the supporting arm, the inner heavier ing witnesses.
side normally restin on the stop and the w 7 T w outer edge provided ivith a thumb piece by 01 l O HEB RY HUELLL' 5 means of which the dish is tilted, substanitnesses:
tially as set forth. MICHAEL GRU,
In testimony whereof I have signed this MORRIS COHEN.
