HARNESS ATTACHMENT.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 552,442, dated December 31, 1895.

Application filed January 4, 1895.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN WV. NELLIs, a citizen of the United States, residing in the town of Palatine, in the county of Montgomery and State of New York, have invented a new and useful device or contrivance for holding the side strap running from the breeching to the little neck-yoke of a double harness, and at the same time allowing the side strap free play, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in harness attachments and it consists in a guiding device supported by being secured to the belly-band billet or trace-buckle, for the purpose of supporting and guiding the side strap, leading from the neck-yoke to the breeching of a double harness, over the said billet.

The object of the invention is to provide a device of the class described, of simple construction, for supporting theside strap and at the same time afford it a free longitudinal movement.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of a harness provided with my improved attachment. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the same detached. Fig. 3 is a rear view. Fig. at is an edge view.

A designates the back or body of the attachment, and B the clasp-arms on the vertical edges thereof for bending backward upon the billet 0. Upon the upper edge of body A is the hooked band D for engaging the bar of trace-buckle E, and thus holding the attachment securely from longitudinal movement on the billet.

F is a long tongue bent from the upper'edge of body A downward over the front thereof, while bent upward from the lower edge of body A is short hook or bend G, slightly removed from tongue F to leave space H through Serial No. 533840 (No model.)

which the side strap (not shown) may be moved endwise into space I formed by tongues F and G, and inwhich space the said strap is adapted to move freely. While tongue G extends upward sufliciently far to prevent accidental removal of the side strap, yet the latter may be readily inserted in space I by a slight upward twist through space H.

WVhile I do not desire to limit myself to the form here described or the material used, yet I prefer the combination shown, and such material as will afford pliable clasp-arms for pressing either to the billet or side strap if so desired.

Having this fully described my invention, what I claim is 1. An attachment of the class described comprising a body portion, backwardly bent clasp arms on opposite edges thereof for engaging the billet, and the oppositely extending tongues across the front of said body to form space I for the side strap, substantially as shown and described.

2. An attachment of the class described comprising body A, clasp arms B, the long depending tongue F on the front side thereof, the vertically extended short tongue G, removed from tongue F, said tongues F and G forming space I for the side strap, substantially as shown and described.

3. An attachment of the class described comprising body A, hooked bend D for engaging the trace buckle, backwardly bent clasp arms B for incasing the billet, and tongues F and G to form space I, substantially as shown and described.
