GLOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 550,592, dated December 3, 1895. Application flled August 14, 1895. Serial NO. 559,209. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT BECK CHANT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Port Jervis, Orange county, in the State of New York, have invented a new Improvement in Gloves, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of the same, in which f Figure l represents a face view of a gloveblank, together with the blank of the glovefinger lining. Eig. 2 represents a face view of the glove-blank, showing a glove-Enger lining attached. Fig. 3 illustrates a crosssection of the glove-fingers after the blank has been formed into a glove.
My invention relates more particularly to silk gloves; and it consists in a glove of this character' wherein a separate lining, cut from a single piece, is secured to the blank of a glove before the same has been united to form a glove, whichjlining is so formed that it follows the contour of the portions of the blank to which it is secured and is of an extent at the index-finger sufficient to extend around three sides of such glove-finger and has three finger-lining strips, each of which is adapted to extend around but one side of the finger, so that a reinforcement is provided at those portions of the fingers of the glove wherein the most wear occurs.
In the drawings, A represents a gloveblank, which is made of a single piece in the manner indicated and may be provided with a lined thumb A lining-blank B is cut from a single piece, preferably in the manner shown in the drawings, and, it will be observed, follows the contour of that portion of the blank A to which it is secured contained within the line a. This glove-finger lining-blank is secured to the blank A within the line a in any suitable manner, as indicated at h,.Fig. 2. The glove is then put together by seams c d e f, which seams secure the loose portions of the glove together and connect the lining thereof to the body portions or fingers thereof. It will be observed from Fig. 8 that a lining is provided for the first nger g of the glove on the three sides where the most wear occurs and that a lining is provided in the three remaining fingers on the palm-face only of the glove or glove-finger.
By my invention I am enabled to provide a lining for the ingers of a glove from a single piece, which follows the contour of that portion of the blank to which it is attached, and at those portions only of the fingers of a glove wherein the most wear occurs, thereby reducing the cost of the material employed, the labor necessary to make the glove, and providing an article which is neat inl appearance and is not bulky or clumsy when upon the hand.
I am aware that heretofore linings have been provided for the finger tips of silk gloves, and such I do not claim, broadly; but
What I do claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A glove having a lining for the iingers thereof constructed of a single piece and of an extent at the index finger sufficient to extend around three sides of such glove finger and three finger-lining strips, each of which is adapted to extend around but one side of a finger, the blank of said lining piece following the contour of that portion of the blank of the glove to which it is attached, substantially as described.
