Be it known that 1, JOHN A. CRAWFORD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Findlay in the county of I-Iancock and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Hasp-Lock, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in hasp-locks.
The object of the presentinvention is to improve the construction ot' hasp-locks, and to provide a simple and inexpensive one, capable of being operated by a key, and adapted to receive and engage the ordinary form of hasp.
The invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts, hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and. pointed out in the claims hereto appended.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of a hasp-lock, constructed in accordance with this invention, and shown engaging a hasp. Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal sectional view. Fig. 3 is a reverse plan View of the lock, the removable plate of the lock-casing being detached to illustrate the interior construction of the lock. Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of theisliding catch for locking the tumbler against outward movement. Fig. 5 is a view similar to Fig. 3, illustrating the position of the parts when unlocked.

1 designates a hasp, designed to be hinged at its end 2 in the ordinary manner and having its other end outwardly offset, as at 3, and provided with a longitudinal slot or opening et for the reception of a pivoted head 5 of a lock 6. The head 5 is provided with a shank '7 pivotally mounted on the lock-casing 8, and it consists of a central circular portion and lateral projections, the latter being formed by a flange 9, which serves as a thumb-piece for turning the head. The slot 4 of the hasp conforms to the configuration of the head, and consists of a central circular portion and opposite extensions, and the head is adapted, when arranged longitudinally of the slot or opening 4, to be passed through the same, and it is partially rotated to arrange it transversely of the slot or opening for locking the hasp.
The lock-casing has a removable bottom or back plate 10 and is secured on a door or casing by suitable fastening devices. The shank of the head has fixed to its inner end a disk 1, provided with opposite peripheral shoulders 12 and 13. The shoulder 12 is arranged to engage a pin or stud 14 to limit the rotation of the head when the latter is turned transversely of the slot or opening t to prevent the head from being rotated past such position. The other peripheral shoulder 13 is engaged by a pivoted spring-actuated tumbler 15, located adjacent to a keyhole 16 and arranged to be engaged by a key 17 for throwing its point 18 out of engagement with the shoulder 13, to permit the head to be rotated and turned longitudinally of the slot or opening il, to release a hasp 1. AY stop-ange 19 is located at one side of the keyhole and arranged within the lock-casing to prevent the key from being rotated in the wrong direction.
The tumber 15 is engaged by a spring 20, interposed between the adjacent side of the lock-casin g and the outer edge of the tumbler, and the latter is locked against outward movement by a sliding catch 21, arranged adjacent to the disk 11 and provided with a curved inneredge conforming to the configuration of the same, and it is adapted to be carried to the outer side of the point 1S to lock the same in its engagement with the shoulder 13. The sliding catch 2O is guided by a curved ilange 21 and is provided with a curved groove 22 for the reception of the saine, and it is operated by an eXteriorly-arranged sliding plate 23, connected by a shank or pin 2e with the catch, the casing being provided with a curved slot 25 to permit the shank or pinto move back and forth. The lock-casing is shown oval in form, but any other configuration may be employed, it desired.
It will be seen that the hasp-lock is exceedingly simple and inexpensive in construction, that it is adapted to engage the ordinary form of hasp, and that the eXteriorly-arranged head is adapted to securely conne a hasp.
Changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to Without departing from the principle or IOO sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
IVhat I claim isl. The combination of a hasp having an opening, a lock casing having a key-hole, an exterior head mounted on the casing and adapted to be passed through the opening of the hasp and to engage the latter, and provided With a shank pivoted on the casing, a disk located Within the casing and fixed to the shaft and provided at diametrically opposite points with peripheral shoulders, a stud located at one side of the disk and arranged to engage one of the shoulders to limit the movement of the disk, and a pivotally mounted spring-actuated tumbler disposed at the opposite side of the disk and located adjacent to the key-hole of the casingand arranged to engage the other shoulder of the disk, substantially as described.
2. The combination of a hasp having an opening, a casing, an exteriorly arranged head mounted on the casing and provided with a shank, a disk located Within the casing and fixed to the shaft and provided with opposite shoulders, a stud arranged to be engaged by one of the shoulders, a spring actuated tumbler arranged to engage the other shoulder, and a sliding catch arranged within the casing and adapted to engage the outer side of the tumbler, substantially as described.
3. The combination of a hasp, a casing havr ing a key-hole, the exteriorly arranged head having a shank, the disk Xed to the shank and arranged Within the casing, thepivoted spring actuated tumbler located adjacent to the key-hole and engaging the disk, the sliding catch located adjacent to the disk and conforming to the configuration thereof and provided with a curved groove, a curved guide rib mounted on the casing and fitting within the groove, and an exteriorly arranged plate connected with the catch for operating the saine, substantially as described.
