To all whom it may concern.-

Beit known that I, SAMUEL B. LEONARD, a citizen of the United States of America, residing atDenver, in the county of Arapahoe and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bicycle Tool- Boxes; and I do declare the following to bea full, clear, and exact description of the invena tion, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to improvements in bicycle tool-boxes; and it consists of the features hereinafter described and claimed, all of which will be fully understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which is illustrated an embodiment thereof.

Figure l is a side elevation of the device attached to the frame of a bicycle. Eig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section taken through the device, which is shown on a larger scale.

The device comprises an outercase 5 and an inner tube 6. The case is provided with straps 7 fastened to its upper side and adapted to buckle around the top cross-bar` 10 of a safety-bicycle. Another strap Sis attached to the front of the case and adapted to fasten to the steering-post 9 just below where the By means of these straps the case is made fast to the ma'- chine. v The'front of the case is fashioned to fit the angle formed bythe cross-bar and the steering-post. Hence the front of the case, or vthat adjacent the steering-post, is inclined to correspond with the inclination of the post. The front end of the case is closed, while its rear end is open to receive the tube which slides or telescopes therein. This tube is open at the top, whereby when it is drawn partly out of the case the tools may be removed without detaching the tube from the case. The ends of the tube are closed. To

the front end is attached one extremity of a strap 13, which passes through a slit formed l in the adjacent end of the case, its oppositev end being adapted to fasten to the bottom or lower side of the case, whereby the tube is locked against withdrawal. This locking 5o may be eiected by the ordinary glove-fastener, comprising a socket and a stud, the one being secured to the strap and the other to the case. When this strap is unfastened, which can be done by a quick jerl, the tube 5 5 may be pulled out at pleasure, its rear end being provided with a suitable attachment, as a short strap 12, to give the user a hold. As the tube is withdrawn, the strap attached to its front end is drawn into the case through 6o the slit in its frontend'. The fastening de- Vice attached to this strap forms a stopwhich engages the end of the case and prevents the detachment of the tube therefrom, but at the same time permits the tube to be withdrawn far enough to remove the tools. The tube is drawn forward into place by pulling on the strap attached to the front end of the tube.

Having thus described my invention, what 1. vIn a bicycle tool box, the combination with the outer case, of the inner tube having vits ends closed, and being open at the top, the

strap attached to the front end of the tube and passing through a slit formed in the ad'- 75 jacent end of the case, and suitabley means for fastening the strap to the outside of the case, substantially as described.

In a bicycle tool box, the combination of the case having a slit formed in its closed 8o end, the tube adapted to telescope in the case, said tube having its ends closed, and being open at the top, a strap attached to the front end of the tube and passing through the slit in the adjacent end of the case, and a two- S5 part fastening device, one partbeing attached to the strap and the other to the case, the part attached to the strap forming a stop to prevent the tube from being detached from the case, substantially as described.
